To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER GIGLIO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Ozone Park, borough of Queens, county of Queens, and State of New ,York, have invented a new and Improved Holding Device for Vibrators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in holding devices for vibrators, and has for an object to provide an improved construction whereby the device may be readily clamped to the hand so as to transmit all of the vibrations from the vibrator to the hand.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holding device with a clamping pad and adjustable members for causing the pad to grip the hand.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holding device formed with partially encircling members or arms aseiated with a screw adjusting structure for clamping a hand firmly in place.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong, and compara tively cheap construction in which a single clamping piece may be utilized for causing the holder to firmly grip the hand without injury thereto.

. Referring to theaocompanying drawings by nume al inductee a holder as an on:
tirety, which holder is connected with the vibrator 2 by any suitable means, as for instance by havin a set screw arranged in the post 3, whic set screw clamps a projection arranged on the casing of the vibrator 2. Extending into casing 2 is a flexible shaft which is connected with the operating mechanism of the casing 2 so as to actuate the same whenever desired. The device is intended to be placed upon the hand as shown in Fig. 1 and thereby vibrate the hand including the fingers and thumb, which vibration is transmitted to the patient when the hand is brought into contact with him. The holder 1 is formed with a body 4 preferably formed of metal, which body has a turned-over side 5 and a removable side 6. The body 1 is formed with a pair of upstanding posts 7 and 8 and a air of encircling arms 9 and 10. Arranged 1n the body and the encircling arms 9 and 10 is a clamping member 11 formed of felt or other suitable material designed to obnform to a greater or less extent to the contour of the hand. Rigidly connected to the ends of the clamping member 11 are flexible clamping bands 12 and 13, the same being connected in any desired manner, as for instance by stitching 14. It will be observed that the ended the bands 12 and 13 are turned over for providing what may be termed caps 15 and 16, which slidingly fit over the ends of the arms 9 and 10. Normally the caps 15 and 16 are arranged as shown in Fig. 3 with their ends spaced a short distance from the ends of the arms, or if a comparatively large hand is inserted the ends will move against the ends of the arms so as to accommodate the hand. If the hand is comparatively small the ends will remain as shown in the drawing, and the flexible bands 12 and 13 will act against the caps from that position in clamping the hand in position. The upper ends of the flexible bands 12 and 13 are formed with spaced eyes 17 as shown in Fig. 6, which eyes accommodate pintles 18 and 19. which pintles not only extend through the respective eyes mentioned but also through eyes 20 and 21 formed on the traveling nuts 22 and 23, which traveling nuts are rounded or beveled at 24 and 25, respectively, so as to ride over the clamping member 11. The nuts 22 and 23 are provided with ri ht and 110 left threads. respectively, one three bein larger than the other so t one n t 1 travel faster than the other. Preferably nut 22 is caused to travel slower than nut 23 as it is desirable to give a greater movement to that part of the clamping member 11 arranged on the thumb side of the hand. In order that the nuts 22 and 23 may properly travel a shaft 26 is provided formed with threaded sections 27 and 28, the threads on section 28 having a greater pitch than the threads on section 27 so that nut 23 will travel faster than nut 22. The shaft 26 has one end journaled in the post 7 and the opposite end supported by a journal pin 29 extending into a suitable bore in the end of the shaft. pin 29 being supported by post 8 and rotated by a suitable thumb member 30. A suitable set screw or pin 31 is provided for connecting the journal pin 29 rigidly with shaft 26.
It will be noted that the body 4 is pro vided with suitable enlargements for receiving threaded apertures so that the clamping screws 32 may be used for clamping side 6 in position as shown in F igQ' 3.
o The eyes 20 and 21 are turned substantially at right angles to the remaining part of the nuts 22 and 23 so that they may fit into the corners 33 and 34, respectively, when the nuts 22 and 23 are moved as far apart as possible. When the parts are in this position the hand may be thrust between the arms 9 and 10 and then the holder clamped to the hand upon a proper rotation of the thumb member 30 which will gradually bring the nuts 22 and 23 toward each other and operate the flexible members 12 and 13 so that these members will press the felt clamping member 11 tightly against the hand. It will be notedthat the'body 4 is provided with a slot 35 through which the traveling nuts 22 and 23 project, the same being shown more clearly in Fig. 4. Also, a post 3 is preferably formed integral with body 4, which post is provided with an aperture 36 through which a support for the vibrator 2 is passed, which support is clamped rigidly in place by set screw 37.
In Fig. 9 will be seen a slightly modified form of the invention in which the shaft, or bar 26 is provided only with one threaded portion 38 as there is only one nut 39 used which is connected with a flexible strap 13', and is designed to operate in a similar manner to the way the strap 9 ofthe preferred construction operates. From this construction and arrangement it willbe seen that either a single clamping arrangement may be used or a double clamping arrangement may be used as shown in Fig. 7. It will be noted that in Fig. 7 as well as the remaining figures of the preferred form means are provided for causing strap 13 to move faster than strap 12. It will also be noted, especially from Fig. 1, how the members '9 and 10 fit the hand. Member 9 fits around behand. Member 10 also extends toward the rear of the palm of the hand so as to not pinch or in uriously affect the hand when thefingers are folded in. If members 9 and 10 extended directly toward each they would prevent an easy closing of the hand, and consequently cause the hand to become tired quickly. By arranging these members below the turning or vo'tal point; as it were, of the"hand,-no o jectionable effectis produced on the hand when the" device is gripped therein. This is of considerable advantage'as the fingers and hand must be moved considerably during *the massaging of the person and when so moving the vibrator naturally causes a more'or less "vibration whichis transmitted through the hand to the atient.

1. A holding device for vibrators comprising a body formed with a pair of inclosing arms, clamping means arranged in said body designed to clamp a hand to said body, means designedto move transversely of the hand for operating said clamping means, and a rotatable member operating said transversely inovable means.
2. In a holder of the class described. a body designed to be arranged to extend transversely of the hand in operation, a. slot arranged longitudinally of the body, a pair of armsarranged at each end of the body. said arms describing approximately half of a circle, a paired? flexible members arranged in said body, "one'member being arranged adj-acenteacharm, a traveling nut connected with each of said flexible members, said traveling nut=projeoting through said 106 slot, and a threaded shaft/engaging said nuts fol-moving the same whereby they cause said flexible members-to clamp the'hand arranged in saidbody.

a pair of traveling nut-s connected with said clamping members and a threaded shaft engaging said nuts for moving the same toward and from each other, the threads on said shaft and in said nuts being arranged right and left so that upon a rotation of the shaft in one direction the traveling nuts will be moved toward each other, and when the shaft is moved in the opposite direction the traveling nuts will be moved away from each other.
5. In a holder for vibrators, a body provided with a pair of encircling arms, a flexible clamping member arranged in each of said encircling arms, a clamping pad designed to be contracted by said clamping means, a traveling member connected with each of said clamping members, said travel ing members being formed with. oppositely pitched threads, a shaft with oppositely pitched threads engaging said travelin members for moving the same toward an from each other, the threads extendin in one direction being of a greater pitch 1; an the threads extending in the other direc tion, whereby one of the traveling members will move faster than the other.
6. In a holding device for vibrators, a body, clamping means, a pair of traveling nuts secured to said clamping means for moving the clamping means toward each other and away from each other, said nuts being formed with apertures threaded in opposite directions and with difl'erent pitched threads, a shaft threaded at each end for engaging the respective nuts, and means extending from said body acting as supports for said shaft whereby when said shaft is rotated in one direction said nuts will be moved toward each other, one nut traveling faster than the other, and when said shaft is moved .in the opposite direction said nuts will move apart, one nut traveling faster than the other.
7. In a holder for vibrators, a rigid body formed with a pair of converging encircling arms, a flexible clamping member arranged on one of said arms, a clamping ad ar ranged on said arms and said b y, said flexible clamping member encircling part of said body, a traveling nut connected with said clamping member, and a threaded shaft engaging said nut for moving the same toward and from a clamping position.
8. In a holder for vibrators, a rigid body formed with a pair of encircling arms, one of said arms enga ing the palm of the hand adjacent the thum and partially encircling the thumb, the other of said arms engaging the palm of the hand opposite said thum and converging with said first mentioned arm whereby both of the arms are positioned away from the bending Joint of the hand when the hand is close and means for clamping said body to said hand, said means being connected with one of said arms.
