Another object of the invention is to provide in a vibrator apparatus rotating traveling means for adjusting the position of the vibrating arm or member.
A still further obj ect of the invention is to provide an adjusting means for the vibrating arm or member of a massage device, which adjusting member is rotatable, and also travels in the direction toward and from the end of the vibrating arm engaged during the adjusting operation.
In carrying out the objects of the invention a casing, preferably oval, is provided which is also preferably formed in sections and screwed together. This casing is provided with a bearing for the power shaft at the point where the same enters the casing, and on the opposite side of the casing. A part of the power shaft arranged within the casing has associated therewith a pivotally mounted arm carrying a weight or enlargement at one end, and carrying what may be termed an adjusting foot on the opposite end. A traveling member is provided which co-acts with the adjusting foot for adjusting the weight or enlargement on the arm to any desired distance from the power shaft so as to adjust or vary the vibration of the device.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section through a vibrator embodying the invention' Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a slightly modified form of the invention' Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing another form of the invention to that shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

Fig. 5 is a section similar to Fig. 2 but showing a slightly modified form of hammer or weight adjustment;
Fig. 6 is a section similar to Fig. 4 but disclosing a modified form of the invention to that shown in Fig. 4;
Fig. 7 is a plan view of the vibrating arm.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numeral 1 indicates a casing of a massage device embodying the invention, said casing being formed into parts or sections 2 and 3 connected together in any suitable manner, as for instance threads 4, The section 2 is provided with an enlargement 5 having a bore therein, whereby the enlargement 5 acts as a bearing box for the power shaft 6. The enlargement 5 is also preferably provided with a finished portion 7 to which may be clamped a hand holding device or any desired structure whereby the vibrations may be transmitted to the hand, and from thence to the face of the patient. If preferred, the hand holding device maybe connected with the enlargement ,5 instead of the portion 7. Arranged on the interior of section 3 is an enlargement 8 which is provided with a bore 9, whereby the enlargement 8 acts as a bearing box for the end 10 of the power shaft 6. The power shaft '6 may be connected to any suitable source of power (not shown) in order that the shaft may be properly rotated and the various members connected therewith may be properly rotated. The power shaft between enlargement 8 and enlargement 5 is made larger than the re maining parts of the shaft so as to have formed thereon threads 11, and also provided therein a notch 12, whereby the pivotally mounted arm 13 may hold the weight or enlargement 14 substantially central of the shaft. The arm 13 is pivotally held on the power shaft 6 in notch 12 by a pivotal pin 15 so that the arm 13 and weight 14 may properly swing according to the centrifugal,
force acting thereon. I11 order to limit, and also control the position of the weight 14 an extension 16 is provided which is formed with a cam surface 17 against which acts the threaded sleeve 18. The sleeve 18 is provided with an unthreaded portion 19, whereby the sleeve may overlap the notch 12 without any of the threads on the sleeve becoming mutilated. Itis to be noted that the sleeve 18 travels longitudinally of the enlargement 6' and the power shaft 6 so that the weight 14 may be positioned any desired distance from said enlargement. It is also to be noted that this sleeve is a traveling rotatable member and controls the centrifugal action of weight 14, arm 13 and associated parts, whereby a greater or less vibration may be produced.
As heretofore mentioned the adjusting means for regulating the position of arm 13 travels back and forth so as to set the arm 13 at any desired position. This same condition is necessary in the modified form of the invention shown in Fig. 2, wherein the notch 20 is somewhat enlarged and the notch shown in Fig. 1 is provided with a grooved portion 21 for receiving the end of an adjusting screw 22 mounted in the enlargement 23 of the adjusting extension 24 of arm 13. By rotating the screw 22, weight 14 in the form shown in Fig. 2 may be moved toward or from the enlargement 6, thereby adjusting the vibration produced.
In Fig. 3 will be seen a further slightly modified form of the invention in which the screw 25 is threaded into the enlargement 6 and travels back and forth at right angles to the direction of shaft 6 and enlargement 6". The end of screw 25 is arranged in a groove 26 in extension 27 of arm 13.
In Fig. 4 another form of the invention is shown to that disclosed in Fig. 3 wherein the enlargement 6 is provided with a lug or projection 28 carrying a screw 29. The screw 29 is arranged so that the end will fit in groove 30 in the extension 31 of arm 13, whereby upon the rotation of screw 29 arm 13 will be adjusted. screw 29 when operated moves longitudinally of the power shaft 6 as well as the sleeve in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 5 a still further modified form of the invention is shown wherein the enlargement 6 is provided with a tapering aperture 32 which accommodates an adjusting bolt 33 having a rounded head 34 fitting into socket 35 formed in the enlarged end or weight 14 of arm 13. The enlarged end 14 is also provided with a tapering socket 36 which merges into the socket 35. This allows for a swinging movement of arm 13 without causing the same to bind against bolt 33. The bolt 33 is provided with threads 37 which are engaged by a suitable nut 38 preferably formed with a rounded face 39. Upon the rotation of nut 38 bolt 33 will travel or move longitudinally so as to cause the weight or enlargement 14 to move toward the power shaft or be released so as to move therefrom.
In Fig. 6 a further modified form of the invention is shown in which the power shaft 40 is of the same size throughout and a sleeve structure 41 is fitted thereover and secured thereto by suitable screw or clamping means, as for instance screw 42 and a pivotal pin or screw 43. The pivotal pin 43 not only assists in holding the arm 13 in It will. be noted thatposition, but also holds the extension 44 against the surface 45, whereby comparatively large surface is presented and a proper easy swinging movement is provided. The extension 44' is engaged by screw 45 which causes an adjustment of said extension and arm 13". It will be noted that the arm 13 is curved or offset at 46, whereby the center of the weight or enlargement 14 is opposite the center of shaft 40, that is, the center of weight 14 moves in a line toward and from the center of shaft 40, whereby an even vibration is produced when shaft 40 and associated parts are rotated. In order to prevent the enlargement 47 of sleeve 41 from overbalancing the weight 14 the same may be made of a light material, as for instance aluminum, or may be made smaller, while the weight 14 could be made larger. By constructing a massage device according to this form of the invention a strong, simple structure may be produced at a minimum cost as ordinary standard commercial rods may be used for the power shaft and the remaining parts of the device need not be so accurately made as the structure shown in Fig. 1. What I claim is- 1. In a massage device of the character described, a housing, a power shaft extending into said housing, a pivotally mounted arm carried by said shaft and also rotated by said shaft, said arm being heavier at one end than the other, and a traveling member arranged on said shaft and rotated thereby, said traveling member being independently rotatable so as to move independently of said power shaft for adjusting the position of said arm.
2. In a massage device of the character described, a casing, said casing being provided with an exterior bearing boX on one side, and an interior bearing box on the opposite side, a power shaft extending through said exterior bearing box and into the interior bearing box, an arm pivotally connected with said power shaft within said housing, a rotatable traveling member coacting with said arm for adjusting the position thereof, and a weight arranged on the end of said arm.
3. In a massage device of the character described, a power shaft, a housing surrounding one end of said power shaft, said housing being journaled on the power shaft at two points, a notch arranged in said power shaft interiorly of the housing, a pivotally mounted arm arranged in said notch, said arm being provided with an extension on one end and an enlargement on the opposite end, and an adjusting member engaging said extension, said adjusting memher being rotatable and movable longitudinally of said power shaft.
4. In a massage device of the character described, a casing, a rotatable shaft having one end projecting into said casing, a pivotally mounted arm connected with the shaft in the casing, said arm being formed with an enlargement at one end, and an extension on the opposite end, and a rotatable traveling member connected with said power shaft and engaging said extension for adjusting said arm and varying the vibratory action of the arm and weight.
5. In a massage apparatus of the character described, a rotatable power shaft, a pivotally mounted arm formed heavier on one side of its pivotal point than the other, means connecting said power shaft and said arm whereby said power shaft will rotate said arm, and a rotating traveling member engaging the lighter end of said arm for adjusting the position of the arm so as to move the heavier end of the arm nearer said shaft and thereby vary the centrifugal action of the arm.
6. In a massage device of the character described, a casing, a power shaft extending therein, a sleeve connected to said power shaft, said sleeve being formed with a projection, a pivotally mounted arm connected with said power shaft and resting against said sleeve, said arm being ofiset or bent to one side, whereby the outer end will move toward and from the center of said shaft, said outer end being enlarged, whereby a weight is produced, the end of said arm opposite said weight being provided with an adiusting extension, and a screw arranged in the projection from said sleeve co-acting with said adjusting extension for controlling the centrifugal action of said arm and weight.
7. In a massage apparatus, a housing, a rotatable shaft arranged with one end extending into said housing, a pivotally mounted arm connected with said shaft, said arm being formed heavier at one end than the other, said arm being formed with an extension, a rotating traveling member associated with said shaft, and engaging said extension for adjusting the position of said arm, said traveling member traveling longitudinally of said shaft.
8.In a massage device of the character described, a casing provided with a pair of bearings, a rotating power shaft extending through one of said openings and into the other bearing, said last mentioned bearing being closed on its outer surface, a pivotally mounted arm, means for connecting said pivotally mounted arm with said power shaft, and means carried by the power shaft and rotated thereby, said means being adjustable independent of said power shaft whereby the same is adapted to move said arm for adjusting the position thereof, whereby the centrifugal. action thereof is controlled.
9. In a massage device of the character described, a rotating power shaft, a pivotally mounted arm mounted on said power shaft and actuated thereby, and a manually operated rotatable traveling member moving parallel with said power shaft, said traveling member rotating bodily with said power shaft.
10. In a massage device of the character described, a rotating power shaft, a sleeve connected with said power shaft and rotated thereby, said sleeve being formed with a projection, a pivotally mounted arm mounted on said sleeve, and a screw mounted in said projection and acting on said arm for adjusting the position thereof so as to control the centrifugal action of the arm.
