Be it known that I, C'ARLETON A. ORB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pueblo, in the county of Pueblo and State o f Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hydrocarbon- Burner Apparatus; and l do hereby declare the following-to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to hydrocarbon burners, the improvements being more particularly intended for use in connection with a water boiler or steam generator such as used in steam automobiles, although the improvement-s can be used in hydrocarbon burnersgenerally for which they are suited'.
One object of the invention is the provision of novel means for mixing the air and fuel, and to thoroughly atomize the fuel in so doing, whereby the mixture is' quickly ignited and the combustion thorough.
Another object is the provision of a hydrocarbon burner apparatus using a fan or blower for furnishing a copioussupply of air under pressure, and novel mea s whereby such blower is operated automatically to supply air when fuel is delivered, thereby simultaneously establishing the supply of air and fuel and likewise simultaneously cutting off such supply, under the control ofv an automatic pressure valve or the like.
A still further object is the provision of such an apparatus including a spark plug or igniter for igniting the fuel, andA automatic means for bringing such igniter into operation when the flow of fuel 'and air is started and for automatically cutting out such ig-A understood that changes can be made within the scope of what is claimed without def -parting from the spirit of the invention.

The apparatus is illustrated as designed for use on a steam motor vehicle, but can be used for other kindred purposes, and, a's

The igniter 34 is stopped after a short interval, by the automatic opening of the switch 3l, and the ignition device is thus brought to rest, as it is no longer needed after the fuel is lighted, being only Abrought into operation when the flow of fuel and air is first established after having been cut down.- When the steam pressure increases 'to a point for which the valve i9 has been adjusted, said valve will be closed, thereby shutting olf the flow of then open to When 'the pressure of steam reduces; the valve 9'will open, there by recstablishing' theflow of fuel, closing the switch 28 to start the blower and, at the same time, energizing the igniter 34E, the same as before.
In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the
fuel nozzle 5 is locate-d centrally of the vanes 2l within the air conduit 23, whereby the air and fuel enter the burner chamber from the saine direction, and such venes will whirl the air around the discharging stream atomizing and mixf ing the fuel. This arrangement, however, will Anot have the advantage of the opposing streams of air and fuel striking one another as in the preferred form.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is l.
