lie it known that l, PAUL d. lxoHLER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Carrick, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Tube-Cutting Machines and Crimpers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The inventori relates to machines for cutting tubes andrefers more particularly to machines for cutting stovelpes, ducts, etc., made of tin or sheet iron., ne object of the invention is to provide a portable construction which can be readily clamped to a workbench and which will cut the tube intermediate its ends without damaging either end portion. Another object is to provide a construction in which there are cooperating cutters adjustable toward each other and in which there is means for rotating these cutters. A further object is the provision of an adjustable stop for limiting the length of tube to be cut. Still other objects of the invention reside in the novel arrangements and combinations of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.

1 is the standard adapted to rest upon a suitable work-bench 2 and to be clamped thereto by the clamp 3. At its upper end the standard is provided with the laterallyextending spaced arms 4 and 5, preferably in vertical alignment. The shaft 6 extends substantially axially through the lower'arm 4 and is rotatably mounted in suitable bearings 7 at the ends o-f the arm. 8 is an annular vcutting tool non-rotatably mounted upon the outer end of the shaft 6.
9 is a cooperating annular cutting tool non-rotatably mounted upon the outer ends of the shaft`10` which extends approximately axially through the upper arm 5. This shaft .is rotatably mounted at its inner end in the stationary bearing 11 of the upper arm. The shaft 6 is rotated by means of the crank 12 fixedly secured to its. inner end. For rotating the shaft 10 the gear 13 is provided specification oftettersratent. Ataart-.eauted May 9, E922.

For the purpose of adjusting the cutting mounted at its outer end in a movable bear ing 15, which bearing is adjustable toward the shaft (5 by suitable means, such as the adjustment screw 16, therebeing sufficient clearance between the movable bearing 15 and the shaft 10 and the upper arm 5 to permit of`movement of the bearing and shaft relative to the arm. By adjusting the bearing 15 toward the shaft 6 it is readily seen that the outer end of the shaft l() and the cutting tool 9 are adjusted so that the cutting tool 9 will cooperate with the cutting tool 8 to cut olf the tubell?, shown in dotted lines, which is telescopically mounted upon the outer end of the lower arm 4.
For the purpose of indicating the length of tube to be cut, the lower arm 4 is provided with a series of suitable gradations 18 extending longitudinally upon the side surface of the arm. For limiting the inward movementof the. tube 17 over the lower arm 4, the adjustable stop 19 is provided which extends downward and adjacent to the lower .8 arm 4 and is slidably mounted upon the shaft 20 which extends longitudinally of the upper arm 5 and is mounted at its opposite ends in suitable bearings 21 upon the upper arm. For securing this stop in its adjusted 9 position, the set screwv22 is provided adapted to engage the shaft 20.
Another importantfeature `of my invention is the provision .of cooperating crimping tools 23 and 24 non-rotatably mounted upon the shafts 6 and 10 respectively and outside the cutting tools 8 and 9. These crimping tools are of smaller diameter than their corresponding cutting tools, the arrangement being such that after telescoping the tube upon the lower arm 4, the cutting tools 9 are adjusted toward each other sufciently to cut the tube, there still being clearance between the crimping tools and the g tube. The tube after being cut is moved outward and its end positioned between the crimping tools which are then adjusted suf- 1 ficiently toward each other to crimp the end Y of the tube and thereby contract the same.
