IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,453, dated August 5, 1873 application led February 3, 1873.
To all whom it may concern: Y
Be it known that I, PATRICK MUNDE, of East Hampton, Hampshire county, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Adjustable Cutting-Table, of which the fol# lowing is a specification:
My invention relates to that class of tables designed more particularly for worktables for cutting out and sewing purposes 5 and consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts, whereby its height can be adjusted by the person sitting at it, and by which it can be folded to occupy little space and be more easily transported.
In the drawings, Figure I is a side view having one leg shown in section. Fig. II isan end view, and Fig., III is a detail view of the brace.
The table-top B rests immediately upon the cross-pieces F F, which are hinged at a a on their inner sides to the' top, s0 as to be capable of being swung with the legs inwardly in the direction of or against the inner surface of the top. The legs I form as shown in section, Fig. I, the part H being keyed or otherwise fastened in the piece F so as to have no motion within it but a rotary one. Proceeding from the part H is the screw W, which is received within the lower part of the leg V as a nut, the nut V being 'free to move within the sleeve T when moved in either direction by the rotation of the screw; and it will be seen that the operator sitting at or partially within the table, by rotating the sleeves sockets when the legs are more or less swung inwardly upon hinges at c a and the brace bent upon its hinge at b, the brace K, when the hooks are inserted, being pressed down and strengthened, and in the action forcing the legs into a vertical position by the shoulders t t, and in that position holding them.
In moving, stowing, or packing the table r for transportation the brace is removed and folded and the legs swung against the top, so
that comparatively little space may be occuied.
The relative arrangement, with a table-top, of the legs, when constructed substantially as shown and described, and of operatin g sleeves T T, screws W W, and nuts V V, for the purpose of enabling the height of the top to be altered at will, and having, in connection with them, the removable brace K, for the purpose of locking the nuts V V when in place.
