This invention relates to a supporting device for collars and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein a soft collar is properly supported without dlsturb- 7 ing the usual appearance of the collar.

Another object of the invention 15 to provide a support for a soft collar wherein a removable stiffening device is provided ad a-, cent the front of the collar for preventing crumpling of the collar.

A still further object of the invention 1s to provide a support for a soft collar which will support both the inner and outer part of the collar and'present a supporting ridge to the edge of the collar near the front.

In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a soft collar shown applied on .a shirt with an embodiment of the invention shown in dotted lines appliedthereto.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspectlve view of one end of the collar shown in Figure 1 and illustrating how the invention is applied and the position assumed when the collar is spread. p Figure 3 is a plan view of the supporting member removed. Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 2 but show ng a modified form of the invention.

Figure 5 is a plan view of the stiffening member shown in Figure 4. Referring to the drawing by numerals 1 indicates a shirt of any desired kind pro vided with the usual neck band 2 for receiving the collar 3, which collar is an ordinary soft collar provided with a neck band section 4 and anoutside or ornamental section 5. This form of collar is old and well known and is being more and more widely used as the comfort from such a soft collar is very desirable. In many instances, especially in hot weather, the collar will become moist and crumpled so that it will pre sent an undesirable appearance. The pocket 10 secured to section 5 is preferably connected; therewith adjacent the ends of the pocket so that a necktie 12 maybe inserted beneath the pocket and celluloid, rubber 11 carried by the neck band section 4 of the I collar. In this way, both sections of the collar are stiffened and supported though the stiffening is flexible and will allow the collar to flex in a natural manner but will hold the same in an upright position unless positiveliy forced from such position.

-In ad ition to acting as stiffening members for the two sections of the collar the body 7 is arranged so that the upper edge" will 'engage the folded edge 13 of the collar and act as a support therefor, said body extending for any desired distance toward the rear.
