UNITED {STATES JACOB I. ROBIN, on NEW YORK, N.
APPARATUS FOR PROTECTING CHECKS,- RECEIPTS, ETC AGAINST ALTERATIONS.
Specifieation of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 25, 1922.
Application filed February 26, 1920. Serial No. 361,376.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that JACOB I. ROBIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, has invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Apparatus for Protecting Checks, Receipts, Etc, Against Alterations, of which the following is a specification.-
My present invention relates to means for protecting checks, receipts, etc.
With check protectors now in use the amounts Written on the checks are also stamped, punched or shredded into the latter, But this precaution has frequently proved to be insufficient, as this method does not prevent the subsequent punching or shredding of figures into the instrument. It is therefore the object of my invention to provide a method which will render subsequent alterations in the instrument impossible.
My invention will be rendered more clear by reference to the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts and in which a diagrammatic view of the apparatus is illustrated.
On a base ais mounted. a receptacle 6 which is adapted to contain a suitable ink repelling substance as resinous or oily matter. Suitably arranged over the receptacle are two superposed feeding rollers c, d which are in frictional contact with one another and the lower one (Z of which is adapted to constantly dip in or be in contact with the matter contained in the receptacle 6. On
' one side of the feed rollers is a horizontal table or sup-port e arran ed flush with the line of contact between t e two rollers and from which the instruments to be treated are fed to the rollers. On the opposite side of the rollers is a heated surface f, such as a roller or drum, arranged close to the rollers c, d and adapted to receive the treated docu-' ment and to dry the same. The heating of the roller may be effected in any suitable manner. In the example shown 9 denotes a gas burner provided within the roller or drum '9. Even with the upper face of the rolleror drum 9 may be a table or support it onto which the dried instrument will be deposited after passing over the drum 9.
The device as above .described is only one embod ment of my invention, and may be variously modified without departing from the principle of my invention. I therefore do not Wish to restrict the same to the details described and shown. 1
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A device for protecting checks, receipts or like instruments against subsequent alterations, consisting of a base, a receptacle below said base containing anlink repelling substance, two superposed rollers which are. in frictional contact with one another'and of which one projects into the receptacle and is adapted to apply a layer of said substance to the face of the instrument, said base being flush with the line of contact between said two rollers and a heated rotary drum at one side of and near said rollersadapted to receive" the treated instrument and dry the same.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
