JOHN S. .ORNDORFF, OF VIRGINIA CITY, NEVADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PEN-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,287, dated July 29, 1873 application filed June 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. ORNDORFF, of Virginia Uity, in the county of Storey and State of Nevada, have invented a new and Improved Pen-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
The accompanying drawing represents a pen-holder with elastic rubber ferrules or sleeves partly in section to show the construction of said sleeves.
The object of my invention is to furnish an improved pen-holder, which isolates and protects the arm from the flow of magnetism in steel pens, softens the scratches and jars of steel pens, produces an easy hold without cramping. or tiring the fingers, and gives a smooth, regular, and rapid handwriting. My invention consists in attaching a hollow elastic sleeve or bulb to the stern of a pen-holder, so as to confine a quantity of atmospheric air and form a cushion, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents a pen-holder,
of the usual shape and cylindrical stem. It
is provided with two elastic rubber sleeves,
B, of which one is placed near the pen for the finger-ends, the other, in the middle part, to restalong the side of the forefinger. These ferrules or sleeves may be made of any size, more or less elastic, and of suitable outside ornamentation. The ends clasp and hold firmly on the stem of the holder. The middle hollow part, of larger diameter, is bulb-shaped, which forms an air-cushion.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the bulb-shaped rubber sleeve B and air-cushion a with the holder A, as shown and described.
