To all whom t may con/cera:
3 Be it 1 known that 1,GOTTFRIED WELGER,
.manufacturen residing Yat Seehausen, Wan- Y zleben, Republic ofGermany, have invented kCertain new and usefulA Improvements in Baling` Presses, (for'which `I have filedapplication in GermanyMarch1,1919; Neth-Y erlands, June 1, l1920; Switzerland, JuneQ, 1 920,) ofwhich^the following isa specification.
x Myrfin'vention relates to improvements in baling presses and morelparticularly `inbaling pressesfor shortmaterialssuch for example aschai As' isknownin 'the `art one type of baling press'vof this classis constructed with a vertical or inclined passage Within which the material Ais compressed b y means of a reciprocating piston, and from V which-'it is discharged inthe formY of a bale.
For Y producing uniformi' bales, partitions vmust'be placed. inthe passage at'certain intervals which border the bales and permit binding thereof.: One of thepobjects of the improvements isi to provide means for f throwing the said partitionsminto Athe said passagewhich-means are so` constructed as .to permit-(rapid and reliable operation, the` partitionsbeing guided in such a way that they are not'arrested in their' movement b being inserted angularly. i' With this object --in view my invention consists in providing a. spring Vpressed throwing member infront (have been used inalltheviews ,to indicate lof the'opening of thev passage and on a. table provided for insertingthe partitions which throwing member is adapted to engage the rear of the partitions and'to throw the' Vsame in a direction passing through its'plan.'

for feeding boards"successively to the slide. Referring toV tlie vezzample `shown in Figs.
vcal
ton (not shown). The trunk-isv provided Fig. 10 is-a vertical section'of Vthe means 1 and 2,' the Vbaling fpress comprises a 2vertitrunkjl adapted to're'ceive thejinaterial` to be baledA by means of avreciprocating pis'- Y Y .with ahorizont'al slitB for insertingtheparv f ations 2 therethrough andv in frgntfof the vplacing vthe* partitions f2 thereon. :The tafb'le is formed lwith lateral'fl-langes A6` providing guides forthe-partitions and-the flangesaref vsaid slit a horizontal tabled isprovidedfor formedwith longitudinal slits 5 providing: guides for a throwing-ineinberjuch as slide 1.
V7. Tow-the -outer Yends Asprings 8 are attached-which are securediat fixed fparts/ of Ythe trunk" L The splngsare adapted-to move l I the partitions within' theirfplanes' *andn'into y For inserting a partition@ into y so rectionv 'of the arrow@ by in'eaiis'A of a' handle Y the trunk. Y the trunk 1 vthe slide 7 is re'tra'ctedfinthev di- 9 secured vthereto Qrby means of operat'ing'f levers 19'and-13 (Figs-6 and? )engaging slide is released, so that the springs'iS vthrow 'the Outer Q'IClS thereof, 'whereupon'theprbii 1 on 2 is Placed @f1 the table if .New ai@v the partitions thronghthe slit 3 and into' the triuikan'd onzthefsurface of the inaterialxf -In YF ig. '3 I have shown a `Ino`diication vof the invention iin which locking means Y are provided foi'fholding theslide'r?v inretracted As shown thelockingineanscoinV v sists of a lockinglever 10 which is held in locking'positionby a spring 11,"and'which Y is adapted to.; befro'clred in releasing -by pressing'on the front end 12 thereof.V
. When'releasingflthe'throwing slide while Y' l i pistonis not-in propierfpo Y Y sition, the partition; the wallv of the trunk,
the Y'compressing or the pistonV might .bef inj uredf 1 VTherefore I prefer to provide an opei'ative'conne'ction between the pistoni andthe unlocking means for the-throwing slide. Such; means are shown by wayf examplejin Fig. '4. As: shown in the said igurethe' jloc'kingrmeinber ,i101 isadapted to"be'conne.Cted with the` pis- Q` ton Nltby a hand operated leverl, so"that""' 7` when moving the piston releases' tl'ieslide away fromthefslit shown thero'cker 101 is extended rearwards ofits ful'crum .15
and itis connected with Vthe Vpiston *le-byfa': link 16 having a hook shapedupper end adapted to engage a trunnion 17 pi'ovided on the piston. 'Vhen the piston 14 moves upwards, and the lever 13 is rocked into the position shown in Fig. 4;, the link 16 is set in position 'for engagement with the trun nion 17. by means of a rocker 21 connected with thc levei 13 by a link 20. 'Ihe `iront end of the rocker 21 is Yenlarged suliciently to securely engage the link 16 for rocking the vsame. vUpon upward movement of the piston 1/1 the link 16 is carried along so as to set the rocker 10]l in releasing position. Fig. i1 shows the parts in the posit-ion in which the rocker 101 has released the slide 7 and the slide has thrown apartition 2 into the trunk 1. The ollowingopera-ton consists in setting the slide 7 in position for throwing another partition, and for this purpose the hand operated lever 13' s rocked in the direction yof the arrow y. The slide y7 is retracted to the right by means of the lever 13 and a short lever 19 keyed toi the opposite end of the rock shaft 18 to which the lever 13 is secured In the retracted position the slide 7 is again locked by the pawl 101. Finally a new partition is vplaced on the table 4. The link 16 is automatically7 rocked out of operative position relatively to the piston. Vby means'of a spring 22, when the lever 13 and the rocker 21 are rocked to the right.
.I `wish it to be understood, that my in vention is notlimitedfto the construction shown in Fig. e, and more particularly to vthe construction` in which the locking mech- Y anism 10l is set in position for releasing the Y,
. the downward movement'of the piston, the
`the material moving downwards. stap wheel a pin 24 is secured-` which upon lever 20 and lever 19 connected thereto are moved to the right by the cam action of the inclined surface, and inthis movement the levers319 and 20 carry along the slide 7 into its locked position.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a modification of the inventionin which the locking member 102y is set in noni-locking position by means of the material being baled. 11s shown a star wheel 23 is provided on the part of the trunk where the material is compressed, which star wheel is made to be rotated by vTo the rotation of the stai-*wheel lifts a lever 25 connected by a link 26 with a rocker 27 carrying the lockingmember 102. In a modification of the invention illustrated; iny Figure 9` the lever .25 is connected with means such `as -check rod 26 having a hooked shaped upper end for engaging a lip on the rod 16 for setting the link 16 in inoperative position relativelyv to the trunnion 17. The rotatering rod 16can thus rock the lock 10 about its pivot 15 and release the slide 7. it the lower part ot' the rod 16l there is connected a triangular element having an inclinedsur- :tace which can he forced back by the piston, the` rod 16 thus beingY moved 4into the locked positionfwhere it is retained by the vcheck rod 26. This movement of" the triangular element also moves lever 20 in the same directicn and carries the lever 19 and theslide 7 into the starting position. Y
A Jfurther modiiicationconsists in placing 'the partitions 2 in a Vpile above the table 4,
as illustrated in'Figure10, in which case the throwing member 7 inserts upon itsroperative` stroke the lowermost partition'member. Slide 7 is madelot Suchlength that during .this operative `Vmovement ithlds hack the remaining boards .off the pile until Vthe slide isl again carriedback to the starting position, whenl thefheX-t partition 'drops on the table and in position for being thrown by the slide 7 upon the return/stroke thereof.
I claim 1. In a baling` press, the combination-with azveitically disposed trunkv having a transverse slit in"r its wall, and a compressing member adaptedv to reciprocate in said trunk,
of means 'for guiding. a partition to bev in- -seited through said slit, a throwing member slidably mounted inV said means for throwimY a partition through said slit and into the trunk, and spring means connertedtoopposited ends of said throwing member for im parting throwing movement thereto. l
