Many such containers have been provided heretofore as evidenced by the prior art and this invention is concerned with an im proved display container which is purposely designed with a view to simplicity of operation. Gontainers of this general type, particularly those containing candies and the like, are sold broadcast and come into the hands of dealers who in many instances are ignorant and cannot, without instruction, understand how to manipulate some of the more complicated boxes into display position. The box of this invention is manipulated into display position with the utmost simplicity and has found favor in the trade on account of this feature,

which permits anyone, even the most ignorant, to make use of it in the intended manner.

More particularly, it is an object of this invention to provide a box in which the bottom itself is hinged to the front wall and is liftable along its rear edge and detachably supported from the rear of the box, .to lift the goods into inclined position for display purposes.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a display container which has connected side and end walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure open at top and bottom, with a box body hinged to the upper edge of one side wall and a cover hinged to the corresponding edge of the opposite side wall, together with interengageable means provided on the cover and the rear wall of the box body to support the latter in inclined position within the rectangular enclosure.

A further object of the invention is to make a box of this type, in collapsible, knock-down fashion? from. a single blank,

so that the, blanksmay be shipped fiat and later assembled for use.

Another object of the invention is to pro-' vlde a blank for making a box of the type disclosed, characterized by a continuous stnp along one edge of the blank which is folda-ble to form the outer upright walls of the box and by two lateral extensions from said strip which form, respectively, the cover and the movable bottom of the box, together with integral foldable parts connecting each side edge of the cover to the upright end wall-forming portions of the blank.

Other objects and advantages will appear in the following description and in the illustrative embodiment of the invention in the accompanying drawings, in which;

Referring now more specifically to the drawings and particularly to Figure 2, the reference character 10 designates that portion or panel of the blank which constitutes the bottom of the box and which is preferably provided with the end fiaps 11, 11 and the front and rear flaps 12,'and 13, respectively; The blank is scored along the lines 14, and at the time the blank is stamped out, or otherwise so formed with foldmg lines that the end flaps 11 can be bent along the lines 14 and the front'and rear fiaps 12 and 13 upwardly along the lines 15 to form the body of the box. The front flap 12forms a side extension of a continuous strip portion 16 of the blank which forms the outer walls of the box. This portion 16 is scored to form folding lines as at 17, 18, 19 and 20, so as to permit the blank to be folded into substantially rectangular shape. The ends of the portion 16, when folded into rectangular shape, may be secured in any suitable manner. For example, as shown, a tongue may be provided on one end of said portion 16 adapted to interlock with a slit in the other end thereof. This locking extension is preferably sectional, as is the interlocking tongue, the extension being slit along the median line 21 forming the symmetrical half members 22 and the half tongue members 23. These tongue members, which are complementary, together form a sort of arrow head which are passed through the slit 24 and lie within the form when set up and they may be permanently held in place if desired, by gluing them to the inner face of the form.

The continuous strip portion 16 of the blank is also provided with a side extension or flap 25 constituting the cover of the box and this flap is scored alongthe line 26 to permit the cover to be bent downwardly at the rear of the box, and also along the line 27 at a suitable distance from its outer edge to form the front lap 28 by which cover is raised and lowered.

29 designates wings which are somewhat triangular shape, said wings being integral with the member or flap 25 and the form 16, and each wing is scored along line 30 which is a diagonal extending from the junction of the scored lines 1726 and 18-26, the wings thereby constituting bellows folds.

The cover 25 is provided with a slit 31, the purpose of which will later appear. The rear flap 13 of the bottom 10 is provided with a tongue 32 which is formed by cutting through the flap on a curved line 33, and at the outer (upper edge) of the flap 13 is pro-' vided a small tongue 34: hingedly connected thereto by a scored line 35.

In fashioning the blank into the form in which quantities are shipped and stored, it is first folded along the lines 17 and 19 and the tongues 23 passed through the slit 24 into interlocking relation. As before stated, these tongues may be lued to the inside of the 'form member. T eizlaps 11 are then folded inwardly on member 10; the flap 13 carrying the fingerpiece or tongue 34: is now folded down on the turned flaps 11, and the member 10, carrying the aforesaid folded in flaps, is folded downwardly on line 15 the entire right hand part of the assembly 1s then folded over on cover 25 along line 18 and its extension 18. The flattened box then appears as shown in Figure 1, ready for shipment.

To form the box, starting after the overlapped ends of the form have been interlocked, the following steps are carried out: The form is bent into rectangular shape, which brings the right hand part in front of the member 25; the flaps 11 are thenbent forwardly and the flap 12 pushed downwardly and forwardly into the form until said flap lies against the front of the form and the flaps 11 lie against the opposite ends of the form. The wings 29 are now collapsed inwardly along lines 30 and the cover 25 brought down so that the lap 28 extends over the front of the box or inside the same, and the cover and its lap can then be held in place by a tape or cord in the usual manner.

It should be noted that in setting upthe boxes as hereinbefore described, when the llap 12 is forced into the form, the flaps 11,

The fingerpiece may have the name, price of the goods, or advertising matter thereon, and the inside of the cover may also be provided with advertising or other matter.

' I claim 1. A paper box comprising a box form member open at top and bottom and substantially rectangular in shape, a box body member adapted to fold into said form downwardly from above and hingedly connected with said form at the top edge of one side thereof, a cover secured to the opposite side of the box form and adapted to form with the said side a wall for the box when the latter is in display position, and co-opcrating means carried by the rear side of the box body member and said wallof the form member for holding the bottom of the box body inclined, said means comprising a tongue on the one and a slit on the other.

2. A display b'ox, comprising, front, rear, and end upright walls, a cover hinged to the rear wall, a bottom hinged to the front wall, a rear upright flap on the bottom adjacent said rear walls, and interengaging means on said fiap and cover to support said bottom in inclined position, when desired.

3. In a display container, front, end and rear walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure, a box body hinged to the front wall and foldable within said walls, a cover hinged to the rear wall and movable into position to form a continuation thereof and to form with said rear wall a back for the open said box body and the back to support the box body in inclined position.

4. In a display container, front, end and rear walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure, a box body hinged to the front wall and foldable within said walls, a cover hinged to the rear wall and movable into position to form a continuation thereof and to form with said rear wall a back for the open box of substantially greater height than the rear walls, bracing means for the cover hinged to other of said walls and when the cover is open forming extensions of said walls and inter-engaging means provided on said box body and the back to support the former in inclined position.

A display box comprising an open frame having front, rear and end walls, a cover hinged to one of the walls, foldable bracing members connecting the cover with adjacent walls, a box bottom hinged to one of the walls and movable to a position between the bracing members and means for supporting the bottom in position between the bracing members to prevent collapse of the latter.
