Description

W. HARACH.
Tassels for Games and Umbrellas. No ..140,825.
Patented July 15, 1873,
AM. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHIC 00. MY, (osaamvs's moms) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM HARNACH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TASSELS FOR CANES AND UMBRELLAS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,S25,'dated July 15, 1873; application filed May 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM HARNAOH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved (Jane and Umbrella Tassel, of which the followingis a specification:
(lane and umbrella tassels have, up to this time, been wholly made of leather, by rolling up a strip of leather slitted nearly across from side to side to form the strings for the tassel, braiding a string around the roll or head formed by the nnslitted portion, and attaching the string or strings by which the tassel is suspended. Now, Ihave contrived how to make a neater and cheaper tassel of this character than can thus be made of leather, by making this slitted' strip of paper colored like the color of leather, and varnished with awater-proof varnish. The appearance is better, because the surface is smoother, the substance more compact, and the color brighter. It is equally if not more durable than leather, and is considerably cheaper.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cane-tassel constructed according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion of the slitted paper strip of which the roll of strings is made.
A represents the said paper strip of which the strings of the tassel are formed by slitting it, as shown. B represents the braid of leather strings applied to the head of the roll and 0 represents the suspending-strings.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim Witnesses:
T. B. Mosnnn, ALEX. F. Ronnnrs.
