Description

ELIZA I. HARDING.
Abdominal Supporters. l vNo. 140,778, Patenredjulywnsm.
PATENT FFIE. j
ELIZA J. HARDING, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN ABDOMINAL SUPPORITERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
140,775, dated July 15, 1873 application filed December 6, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Mrs. ELIZA J. HARDING, ofthe city and county of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain Improved Abdominal "Supporter, of which the following is a speciication:
The nature ofthis invention relates to a back or posterior brace of improved construction, form, and adaptability for certain cases, as will hereinafter more fully appear.
Of the drawings, Figure 1 represents, in front elevation, the supporter as it would appear when on the person of the wearer. Fig. 2 is a side View of supporter as shown upon the wearer. Fig. 3 is a rear View of back-brace of supporter.
A is the anterior brace. At line x x the brace A terminates inward to reach and support and cover more fully the os pubis; also, said brace has Whale-bone stiffening a, rubber webbing al, and at its ends is united to the side straps a2 of the posterior brace. B is my improved posterior brace. Y This is fashioned or cut to lit perfectly the body of the wearer, being at bottom wider than at top, near the waist, and extending across the back and loins. The brace b I provide with whalebone strips b, being in nature light, and adapted to keep the brace in proper position to support the loins. The brace b I further provide at top and side with rubber goring b', (V-shaped,)
the top goring rendering the brace yielding to the natural movements of the body, the :rubber at sides over hip causing the brace to more a more perfect support where a light and general support only is desired.
Especially it will be noted that the brace B,`
formed to extend and support the entire loins, causes it, for cases or conditions where it becomes necessaryto use a support at all times,
"night and day, during term of gestation, to be peculiarly adapted to afford relief from the discomforts of such condition, relief from pains in the loins, Src. Also, in cases of pendulous abdomen, or in dropsical disorders, the patient can wear the back-brace with perfect comfort.
Both braces A and B are held in their proper position by the shoulder-straps O, under hipstrap e, upper hip-strap c', with which, together with such other appendages, the supporter is provided.
I claim- The arrangement of the posterior brace B, designed wider at bottom than top, extending and supporting the entire loins, and having top and side goring b', to operate as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony of said invention I have hereunto set my hand. i
