REMOVABLE-FETAL DINING TABLE;
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 7, 1922.
Application filed October 27, 1920. Serial No. 419,951.
and useful Improvements in Removable- Petal Dining Tables, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to dining tables and the main feature of the invention is the provision, in connection with a revolving top forthe table, of a plurality of removable sections in the shape of the petals of a flower or plant, said sections forming surfaces upon which to dine when food; is placed upon therevolving portion of the A further feature of the invention is the provision of means for easily and quickly attaching the removable sectionsto the main portion of the table structure. 7 1 Afurther feature of the invention is the provision of a pedestal which is hollow and turc.
formsa housing for the removable sections. whenthey are not in use, a ,door being provided .in the pedestal through which the removable sections may be entered.
A further feature of the invention is the provisionof means for ornamenting the pedestal and other parts of the table struc- A further feature of the invention is the provision of knobs in connectionwith therevolving. table top whereby the top maylbe readily rotated, said knobs being so arranged as to serve astooth pick holders.
A further featurelof the invention is the "provision of means for attaching trimmings and guard rails to thebaseof the pedestal, said base having casters attached thereto whereby the table may bereadily'moved fromplace to place. 1
"Other objects and advantages will be herei inafter more fully 'set forth and pointed out made apart of this application,
in the accompanying specification. r
In the. accompanying drawings which are structure showing parts thereofin section,
F gure .21sfa.top,plan view of the table structure with parts broken out, l
, F lgure l'fis a side elevationof the table Figure 3 is a sectional view as seen online 3-3 Figure 1, l 1
Figured is a detail sectional view through a modified form of removable section, and
Figure 5 is a sectional view thereof as seen on line 55 Figure 1.
Referring tothe drawings in which similar reference numeralsdesignate correspond- .ing parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates a pedestal which is preferably constructed of sheet metal and hollow, said pedestal having a door section 2 cut therein so that ready access may be had to the interior of the pedestal.- Connected with the lower end of the pedestal 1 is a molding 3 having a flange 4 which fits within the end of the pedestal, the opposite edge of the molding resting upon a base 5. Entering the upper end of the pedestal 1 is a solid head 6 which has a flange? projecting outwardly a distance over the upper end of the pedestal, and extending from the molding to the flange 7 of the head are a plurality of rods 8 which serve to enhance the appearance of the table as well as for somewhat reinforcing and bracing the same, the
ends of the rods projecting through the molding and flange. f
' Owing to the fact that some of the rods are positioned in the path of the door 2, such rods as come in the path of the door are formed in sections, bars 9 and 10 being attached to the upper and lower edges of the door 2 through which the upper portions of the rods 8 extend and by which said sec tions of the rods-are carried, thelower sections of said rods entering a bar 11 posisupport a'circular ring 15, said pipe sections and ring forming a frame structure. The pedestal 1, base plate 5 and the pipe sections 13 are interlocked with each other by extending bolts 16 downwardly through the pipe sections and the pedestal and base, the lower ends of said bolts being threaded through plates 17 attached to the lower face of the base plate 5, the pipe sections 13 preferably resting directly on the head 6.
Extending downwardly through the cen ter of the coupling 12 is a pin18, said pin having a collar 19which rests on the upperface of the coupling, that portion of the pin 18 projecting above the collar having a swivel plate 20 mounted thereon which car- 'ries the table top 21, so thatsaid top can be readily revolved on the pin. In order to readily rotate the table top, rollers '22 are positioned below the top 21, said rollers being'attached to the pipe sections 13 by extending bolts 23 downwardly from the rollers and through said pipe sections. In order to readily operate the table top21, a plural-' ity of knobs 24 are attached to the table top preferably adjacent the peripheral edge thereof so that allcan be readily grasped for rotating the top, and if desired each knob may be provided with a cavity 25 into which may be placed tooth picks or similar articles.
As best shown in Figure 2 of the draw ings, the table is circular and in order to increase the capacity of the top and at the same time provide stationary portions 26 V which when assembled around the top 21 have the general appearance of petals of a .fiower or plant, the sections 26 having an choring rods 27 attached thereto, the free ends of which rods pass through bores 28- in the circular ring 15, the free ends of the anchoring rods extending at an angle so that they will readily enter the bores 28 and hold the sections 26 in a horizontal posit1on and stationary. When the sections are formed of wood they have longitudinal sockets 29 into which one end of the anchoring rods 27 are secured.
As best shown in Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings, the sections may be formed of metal, in which instance the anchoring rods '27 are secured to the under faces of the sec tions 26 by means of housings 30 which fit around the anchoring rods and have flanges 31 for securing them to the under face of the sections 26. If desired a rail 32 may be positioned around the edge of the base 5, and supported from the base by means of brackets 33, and in addition to the rail 32 aguard rail 34 may be provided which is positioned in a plane above the base 5 and supported from the rail 32by standards '35.
The base 5 is provided on. its under surface withthe usual form of casters 36 so that the table may be'readily moved from place'to place. The sections 26 are so constructed that they may be quickly and easily attached tothe ring 15 by inserting the projecting ends of the anchoring rods 27 through the bores 28 and when the table 1s low pedestal, a door hinged to said pedestal,
a plurality of pipe sections radiating from the center of and connected withthe upper end of said pedestal, a circular ring carrled by said pipe sections, a table toprotatably mounted above said pipe sections, a plurality of removable sections for increasing the diameter of the tabletop, and means for anchoring saidiremovable sections around the peripheral edge of the table top and to said circular ring. V
2. In a table construction, a hollow pedestal, means for gaining'a'ccess to the. interior of said pedestal, 'a' table top rotatably mounted above said pedestal, a plurality of pipes radiating from the axisof said pedes-..
tal, a hollow ring attached to theouter ends of said pipes and positioned adjacent'the peripheral edge of said'top, a coupling connecting the innerv ends of said pipes, a pin carried by the top and extending through the coupling for supporting said table top, a plurality of'removable sections, and means for removably attaching said sections to the hpllow ring around-the peripheral edge of tretop. i
In a't'able constructioma hollow pedestal, a supporting base for said pedestal, a
, frame-like structure above the pedestal comprising a plurality of pipe sections'radiating from the end of said pedestal, a coupling connectlng the inner ends of said pipe secvertically through the pipe sections of the frame-like member of the pedestal and base for locking them together, a table top rota.- tably mounted above the frame structure,
and a pluralityof removable sections adapttions, a circular ring connecting the outer' ends of the pipe sections, bolts'extending ed to be positioned around theperipheral edge of the table top and connected with said ring. i
4. In a table construction, a hollow pedes -v tal, a door hingedto said pedestal, a head at the upper end of said pedestal, abase at the lowerend ofthe pedestal trimming rods surrounding said pedestal and arranged vertically thereof, the trimmin'g' rods in the path of said door being formed in sections, this 25th day of October, A. D. nineteen means for supporting the sectional trimming hundred and twenty. rods a rotatable table to above sai pe es 'tal, and a plurality of removable sections JOSEPH VILES' 5 around the peripheral edge of the table top.
