HOUR-GUIDE CALENDAR.
Specification of Letters Patent. l
Patented Feb. 7, 1922.
Application filed February 24,1919. Serial No. 278,605.
Th all/whom it may concern: 7 l
Be it known that'I, EDMUND MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States of America,
residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hour-Guide Calendars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a combined calendar and memorandum pad and its object is to provide a construction whereby hourly memoranda may be made or engagements for certain hours of the day entered in spaces provided therefor and upon which the hour is indicated, means being provided for use in conjunction with such pad for indicating the present or past hour so that engagements during that hour may not be over looked. 'A further object is to provide a very simple device for the purpose having certain other-new and useful features hereinafter more fully described.
With these and other ends in view the invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the same.
As shown in the drawing a pad 1 is made up of a stack of sheets of paper permanently or temporarily fastened together 'at one end in any suitable manner as by pins 2 on the bottom board or backing 3 extending upward through openings in the pad and provided with thumb screws or nuts 4 on the upper ends to force a clamping plate 5 down upon the pad and securely hold the sheets together and in place upon the board 3 The board 3 and means for securing the sheets together may however be dispensed with if found desirable, the same being an old and well known construction and forming no part of this invention.
'month and year are indicated.
may be written therein, the engagement for any certain hour being written in the space indicating that hour of-the day. A space at-the bottom of eachshe et is preferably provided in which the day of the week,
Inorder "that the users attention ma be called to the memoranda, a suitable indicatlng plate 9 isprovided. This plate is preferably of a size and shape to cover oneof the spaces 7 so that as the hours go by this indicator'ma'ybe moved upon the pad'and the attention of the user directed to the engagements which he may have for the next hour of the day, this indicator being preferably moved each hour so that the hour which is just past will be indicated on the pad and its memoranda concealed from view {0 indicate that such engagements have been rent.
To hold the indicator 9 in place upon the pad and in alinement with the spaces, the pad is provided with a row of perforations 10 arranged centrally of the pad and extending from top to bottom thereof, there being preferably two perforations opposite each hour space. Upon the indicator or plate 9 are two pins 11 extending downward from the lower side thereof and adapted to engage within two of the perforations 10. These pins will thus serve to firmly hold the plate in place upon the pad and in alinement with the particular hour space over which it is placed. To facilitate moving the plate 10, the same is provided with a knob or handle 12 adjacent the end thereof which is provided with the pins 11. The perforations 10 are continued through the board 3, as at 13, where the pad is secured to a board as illustrated in the drawing. These perforations 13 in the board are provided so that as the leaves of the pad are removed and the pad becomes thin, the pins will enter these perforations in the board and thus firmly hold the indicating plate in place even when there is only one or two sheets of the pad remaining upon the board.
Obviously changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spiritof my invention and I do not therefore wish to limit myself to the specific construction and arrangement shown except as specifically set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is l-. In a device of the character described including a plurality of superposed sheets forming a pad from which the sheets may be successively torn and each sheet lined to provide memorandum spaces, a member of thin fiat material and of a size corresponding to the area of a memorandum space adapted to be applied directly to and lie flat upon the top sheet of the pad to cover any one of said spaces, and means to directly engage the leaves of the pad and detachably hold said member in place over any one of the spaces to which it may be applled.
2, A device of the character described, including a plurality of superposed sheets forming a pad, and each sheet lined to provide memoranda spaces corresponding to the hoursof a day, arranged in chronolo ical order with the spaces representing the ore-- noon hours arranged in one vertical column and the spaces representing the afternoon hours arranged in a corresponding parallel vertical column, said superposed sheets being also provided with openings extending through all of'the sheets and adjacent'each hour space, said openings beingin a vertical row arranged between the parallel vertical columns of the spaces, and a plate having a projection at one end to engage said openings and removable therefrom for changing the position of said plate, said plate being adapted to lie flat upon the top sheet of the pad and of an area corresponding to the area of each memoranda space to completely cover any one of said spaces in either column. I v
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
