Definitions

  • Wall-papers have heretofore been prepared by making the design or figures upon a die plate or block, and then imprinting that upon the paper. I simply have a carefully-selected and artistic design, prepared on paper, wood, or other material, and photograph it directly upon the wall-paper. In this manner I am able to secureas many facsimiles as I wish of a design whose delicacy oftint, exact imitation of nature, and elaborate ornamentation are absolutely impossible in the block-printing process. Again, by my process a single copy of a design may be enlarged or diminished in size to suit difl'erent heights of ceilings, thus securing an exactitude of correspondence between the paper and apartment which is unattainable in wall-paper at the present time.

Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
ARGHIBALD W. PAULL, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PROCESSES OF PREPARING WALL-PAPER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 140,533, dated July 1, 1873 application filed January 23, 1873. I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARCHIBALD W. PAULL, of Wheeling, in the county of Ohio and State of West Virginia, have invented a new Process of Preparing Wall-Papers, of which the following is a specification The invention will first be fully described in connection with all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
Wall-papers have heretofore been prepared by making the design or figures upon a die plate or block, and then imprinting that upon the paper.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The process of preparing wall-papers, substantially as above described.
AROHIBALD W. PAULL. Witnesses: S0L0N 0. KEMON,
Tnos. D. D. OURAND.
