IMPROVEMENT IN CARPET-STRETCHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 10,522, dated July 1, 1873; application filed April 14, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, A. F; MICHAEL and H. N. DUNCAN, of Lockport, county of N iagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carpet-Stretchers, of which the following is a specitication:
The nature of our invention relates to an improvement in carpet-stretchers; and consists in a sheet or strip of leather secured to a suitable back, and which has a large number of line wire points sticking out from its surface, which catch in the carpet while stretching it, and hold it firmly without the slightest danger thereto.
Figure 1 is an end view of our device. Fig. 2 is an inverted view of the same.
We take either a continuous sheet or strips of leather, a, and by suitable machinery fill it with wire points 0, which may be of any suitable thickness or length, and of any desired number, and then secure the sheet or strips to a suitable back, 0, having a handle,
shown in Fig. 1, and where they are so thick ly set, extending over a number of square inches, they seize and hold the carpet with perfect security, never slipping or dragging, or tearing, or marring it in the slightest degree; nor is there the least danger of ever breaking any of the teeth.
By hinging the handle to the back the operator can stand while stretching the carpet, and adjust the bearing of the wire-point surface to any angle suited to him or to any location of the carpet.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
