IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-EXTINGUISHERS.
Specicationrformng part of Letters Patent No. 140.512, dated July 1, 1873 applicationiiled- Februarv 15` 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, CHARLEs LIPPrNcoTT and JAMES PATTERSON, both of the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Fire-Extinguishers, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention consists in the combination, with a fue-extinguisher, of certain arms arranged, as fully described hereafter, so as to enable the apparatus to be conveniently adjusted to and comfortably carried on the back of the operator.
In the upper end of the soda-chamber D is a threaded socket, F, to which is fitted the screwplug G, and through the latter passes the threaded valve-stem d having at the lower end a soft-metal valve, b, fitted to an opening in the vitreous bottom a of the metallic acidchamber E, which is connected at the upper end of the socket F. By raising the valve b the acid is discharged, the contents of the soda-chamber being forced through a tube, B, to the outlet-cock A.
The arms H secured to one side of the apparatus, as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4, enable the extinguisher, when secured to the operators back by means of the straps J, to bc carried much more steadily and comfortably than ordinary single-cylinder extinguishers, which are apt to roll from side to side, especially in climbing ladders, &c., thus inconveniencin g the operator.
IVe claim as our invention- The curved arms H on the exterior of the apparatus, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
