To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. DALY, or" Peru, in the county of Miami, and State of Indiana, have invented Acertain new and usefulImprovements in Devices for Locking a Series of Drawers, of which the following is a speci iication Y Y Y Figure l is an elevation, partly in section, of a case of drawers having my improved lock applied thereto. Fig. 4t is a view, showing the end ot' the shaft to which the key is applied for unlocking; and Fig. 5 is a plan and side View of the tumbler which operates the looking-bolt.

This invention relates to a locking device, which is designed to be used on bureaus and other devices in which there are pla-ced a series of drawers; and it consists in the coustruetion, combination, andarrangement of some of its parts, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.

In constructing locks of this character, for devices in which there is a plurality of drawers to be locked, I use a bar ot' metal, A, of the required length to cause it to extend from the top of the case, which contains the drawers, to the bottom thereof. Upon the upper end, by preference, of this bar there is placed a spring, B, one end of which rests upon a shoulder formed upon the bar, while its opposite end bears upon or against the case, the arrangement being such that by the kuse of the key, or by the aid of inclined planes, the, barmay be moved endwise, but will be forced back into its original position by the spring, when the force which moved it has been removed. At suitable points, and upon one edge of this bar, there are formed notches for the reception of catches, which are placed upon the drawers, which catches, for convenience, should be placed about midway of said drawers, measuring in a vertical direction across them. At a point near the centervertically of the case, which contains the drawers, the lock proper is placed, it consisting of a plate, G, of metal, which is provided with vholes for attaching it to whatever it may be placed upon. Through the center of this plate there is formed an aperture for the reception of the shank D of a tumbler, D', which shank affords the means for attaching the tumbler to the plate C, and at the same time receives the key which moves it, its outerend being iliade square or of any other suitable form to receive it. The tumbler is ot' such form that its outer end will enter and move in a slot formed in the bar A, as shown in Fig. 2, so that, as the key is turned, the tuinbler will be made to move the bar. Upon the side of each drawer or other device to be held in position, there is placed a spring-catch, E, which consists of a plate of metal of the required stiliness, having upon its outer end a projection, E', which is beveled upon its inner end, as shown in Fig. 3, so that, when the drawer upon which it is placed is pushed into the case, the springing portiouE will allow the beveled portion to be thrust inward until its end passes the bar A, when it will spring forward, and the drawer will be locked.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

-In a device for locking a series of drawers, the combination ot the notched bar A, spring B, plate C, tumblers D D', and spring-catch E E', the parts being constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
