Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN N. BROU- NEH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hyattsville, in the county of Prince Georges and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined T ool Boxes and Trestles,

of which the following is a specification.

Th s inventlon relates to certaln new and useful improvements in combined workbenches and supports therefor and it has for its objects among others to provide a simple, light and eflicient, yet strong and durable tool-box for use by carpenters and other mechanics, the same combining in the one device a toolbox and a trestle.

The'device as a whole can be carried about from place to place, the legs forming the trestle support being foldable against the sides of the tool-box, with means for holding them in either folded or distended position, the tool-box having movably mounted end closures which, when open, serve as supports extended beyond the ends of the toolbox proper, while the center brace or partition in the. tool box serves .to greatly strengthen the latter and also serves as means, cooperating with devices carried by the movableends, for holding such 'inovable ends-in open or closed position.

Referring to the drawings,

1 designates the top member, 2 and 3 the side portions at the end of the box, and '4 the side portions at the lower portion of the box, and 5 the bottom proper of the box. These are secured together by any suitable means, such as screwsor nails, and upon each side above the portions 4 is a door or closure 6 hinged to the portions 4, as shown at 7, and permitting ready access to'the interior of the box. Any suitable lock may be provided for locking these doors or closures 6 in closed position, of which 8 in Figure 2 designates the key-hole.

Suitable interior braces 01' strengthening strips 9 may be employed if desired, and, as seen in Figure 1, these form the rabbets for cooperation with the'doors. 10 is a longitudinal substantially centrally disposed partition secured to thetop' 1 and to the end portions 11 below the points where the doors '6 are hinged, as seen in Figure 3. This partition serves to greatly strengthen the box making of the top" a T-girder"section, and permits of the use of lighter material for the box so as to decrease the weight'as much as possible. Depending from the top 1 are the strips '14, as seen clearly in Figures 3 and 4, between Which and the central partition the upper edges of the saws are designed to be retained. V I In order to hold the doors or closures 15 there .is an opening at each end of the box in their open position, as seen in Figure 5, I provide the'members 17, one for each door or closure the same being made of sheet material flanged, as at 18, and secured by suitable means, as screws or the like, to the under side of the closure 15, as will be readily understood upon reference to said Figure 5, the said member 17 comprising a, main inclined portion and a member 19 extending at an angle therefromand at right angles to theclosure 15. A tool-box comprising a top member, inclined sides, ends and bottom the top member forming the top of the box and the trestle top and legspivotally mounted adjacent the ends of the box and adapted to be held inextended position in inclined position in line with said inclined sides to form a trestle.

- 7 A tool-box comprising a top member, inclined sides, ends and bottom and legs pivotally mounted adjacent the ends of the box and adapted to be held in extended position in inclined position in line with said inclined sides to form a. trestle, and means for holding said legs in folded position against the sides of the box.

8. A tool-box comprising a top member, inclined sides, ends and bottom and legs pivotally mounted adjacent the ends of the box and adapted to be held in extended position in inclined vposition in line with said inclined sides to form a trestle, and means for holding said legs in folded position against the sides of the box, said means serving to hold the legs in both their extended and folded positions.

9. A tool box having spreading sides and legs secured thereto in the planes of spread, a partition secured to the top of the box giving it a Tgirder section so that the whole forms a substantial trestle, said box having an opening in the end, a movably-m'ounted closure therefor adapted when moved to a horizontal position to form an extension of the top of the box, and a bracing means for said closure cooperable with the end of said partition. 7

A tool box having spreading sides and legs secured thereto in the planes of spread, a. partition secured to the top of the box giving it a T-girder section so that the whole forms a substantial trestle, said box having an opening in the end, a movably-mounted closure therefor adapted when moved to a horizontal position to form an extension of the topof the box, a bracing means for said closure cooperable with the end of said partition, and means carried by said closure for securing a board thereto when the closure isin horizontal position.
