Referring now to the drawings in detail, the receptacle shown comprises an insulating base 10, shell and center contacts 11 and 12, respectively, supported by said insulating base. and binding- terminals 13 and 14, respectively for the shell and center contacts, also supported by said insulating base.
The base 10 may be rovided with ears or flanges 15 through wh1ch screws 16 may be inserted, whereby the base may be secured to any suitable support 17 The shell contact 11 is located in a cupsha ed portion of the base 10 and is secured to t e base by means of a pair of screws 18 extending through a flange portion 19 of the shell and threaded into nuts 20.
The center contact 12 may be secured to the base 10 by means of an eyelet 21.
The binding-terminal 13 for the shell contact comprises a pair of screws 22 extending through openings in the flange 19 and threaded into a clamping plate 23. The binding-plate 23 is provided with a transversely-extending groove 24 to accommodate the ha red end of the leading-in conductor. The heads 25 of the screws 22 are so close together that they form a substantially continuous bearing between the shanks of the screws, to resist the reaction of the leading- 1n conductor thereagainst when the clamping plate 23 is drawn up by means of the screws 22.
The insulating base 10 is provided with a lateral opening 26 through which the bared end of the leading-in conductor may be inserted between the clamping plate 23 and the flange 19. The'groove 24 may be made flaring at the side of the plate nearest the opening 26, as indicated at 27 (Fi 8) to facilitate the entry of the end of the leading-1n wire.
The binding-terminal 14 for the center contact is constructed in substantially the same manner as the binding-terminal for the shell contactjust described. A conductorplate 28 is secured in place underneath the base of the center contact 12 by means of the eyelet 21, the plate 28 leading from the binding-terminal 14 to the center contact 12. Through this plate 28 a pair of screws 29 are inserted, threaded into a binding-plate 30 similar in all respects to the clamping plate 23 previously described.
The insulating base 10 is provided with a lateral opening 31, through which the end of the leading-in conductor may be inserted between the binding or clamping-plate 30 and the conductor plate 28. I
In wiring the device. the bared end ofthe leading-in conductor for the shell contact is inserted between the clamping-plate 23 and the flange 19. and the screws 22 are tightened up to draw the clamping-plate 23 toward the heads 25 'of the screws and to clamp the end of the leading-in conductor between the clamping-plate 23 and the flange 19. The heads 25 of the screws back up the relatively-thin material of the flange 19 and prevent the latter from being distorted when the screws 22 are tightened up. In a in place.

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. A receptacle comprising a body of insulating material, center and side contacts carried by said body, said side contact havin an inwardly extending flan e, said insu ating body having an,outwar y opening recess underneath said flange, a clamping plate located in said recess, and a pair of screws extending through said flange portion and threaded into said clamping plate.
2. A binding-terminal comprising two screws having their, shanks substantially parallel and their heads so close together that theyeform a substantiall contlnuous bearing tween said shanks or the reaction of the leading-in conductor thereagainst,
and a relativel -thin sheet-metal member throu h which t e shanks of said screws extend, located between the leading-in conductor and screw-heads, whereby said thin sheet-metal is supported by said screw-heads, and a metal clampin member into which said shanks are thr aded, whereby said clamping member may be drawn toward said sheet-metal member by the action of said screws.
3. A receptacle comprising a body of insulating material, center and side contacts carried by said body, a member of conducting material electrically connected with said center contact, said insulating body having an outwardly opening recess underneath said conductlng member, a clamping plate located in said recess, and a pair of screws extendi through said conducting memhere and t readed into said clampingplate.
4. An electrical connecter device comprising an insulating base, shell and center contacts supported thereby, and a binding-terminal for one of said contacts comprisin a screw the axis of which is substantially parallel to the axis of the shell and the head of which is accessible through the shell contact, and a movable clamping member into which sald screw is threaded, whereby it may .be drawn toward the head of said screw, said base having a lateral opening through'which a leading n conductor may be inserted between said clamping member and the head of said ScreW.. An electrical connecter device comprising an insulating base, shell and center conand a binding,- terminal for one of said contacts comprising two screws the axes of which are. substantialliy parallel tothe axis of the shell and the hea of which is accessible through the shell contact, the heads of said screws bein so close together that they form" asubstantially continuous bearing between the shanks of said screws for the reaction of the leadingin conductor thereagainst, a relatively-thin sheet-metal conductor member through which the shanks of said screws extend, located between the leading-in conductor and the screw-heads, whereby said thin sheetmetal conductor member is supported by said screw-heads and a movable clamping member into w ich said screws are threaded whereby it may be drawn toward said thin sheet-metal member, said base having a lateral opening through which the leadin in conductor may be inserted between said l(ilamping member and said conducting memtiall parallel to the axis of the shell, the
