NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROEERT WERNER, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CRIMPING AND FLUTING'MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,326, dated J une 24, 1873 application filed April 17, 1873.
' To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERTWERNER, of
`Hoboken, county of Hudson and Statc'ot N ew Jersey, have invented certain'Improvements in Attachments to Embossing or Crimp- I ing Machines, of which the following is a speciiication v The object of my invention is to provide for a, movable tongue, placed in front of an embossing or crimping machine, for the purpose Vof gathering together and holding the fabrics thereupon gures, in regular or irregularforms,
such as ornaments, flowers, arabesques, ornamental or mathematical figures, &c., such as the engravings and impressions ot' the rollers will permit or cause'to be embossed thereon.
My invention consists in fastening one end of 'a movable tongue to an attachment placed in front ofan embossing, lluting, or crimping machine, said end being flexible while the "other end is stift', and extendingtoward the rollers, and can, at.will,`be depressed or elevated by aid of a. set or thumb screw placed in the attachment-below the tongue, such .tongues to be formed in accordance with the material desired to be operated upon, either round, dat, pointed, of a sad-dleform, or any other form.
-In order to more fully describe my invention, I refer to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.
Figure I, Sheet l, is a side view of an einbossing and crimping-machine embodying my invention. Fig. Il, Sheet 1, is a front view of the same. Fig. III, Sheet 2, is a plan view of the same. Figs. IV and V, Sheet 2, are decached` plan views of the attachment, with different forms of movable tongues.v
A is the frame of' the machine.- B and O are the liuting-rollers, 'the roller B being made concave -in the center and the roller C convex in the center. D I) are supports for the crossboard E, to which is attached a frame, F, in
the center and end a of which is fastened the movable tongue Gr. Il is 'a set or thumb screw placed underneath the tongue in the cross-board E, serving. to raise or lower the tongue, as may be required. H is a round tongue, and Il is a tlat tongue, (see Figs. IV and V,) illustratingl some of the different forms of tongues used for the different kinds of embossing or crimping. It is evident that any required number ot'tongues may be placed in the saine attachment to conform with the rollers.
Having thus fully described my invention, I desire to clainix In combination with the rollers B and C,
lframe F, and an adjusting device, H, the mov-v .abletongue G, when farran ged to operate substantially as and for the purposes described. ROBERT lWERNER Witnesses:
ANTON C. CRoNDEL, i RICHARD GERNER.
