. Attachment for Pipes and Cigar and Gigarette Holders, of which the following is description. Y
My invention relates to an attachment that maybe employed with a pipe stem or a stem constituting a cigar or a cigarette holder, and more partlcularly the invention relates 'to means for facilitating the cleaning of the stem.-
The general object of my invention is to provide a lining adapted to be fitted in a stem of the character referred to and having means for removably securing it in position in a manner that the removal'of. the lining from the stem and the thorough cleaning of the same may be done with thoroughness and facility. Y
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a device for the. indicated purpose of extreme simplicity.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifi-' Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a. stem having my invention applied thereto,
the dotted lines indicating a pipe bowl to be employed with the invention;
the line 22, Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical section of a portion of a pipe bowl adaptedvto be employed in connection with a stem pro-' vided with my invention.
In carrying out my invention the stem employed on a pipe or as a cigarette orv cigar holder is adapted to receive at the interior thereof a tubular lining 11, the bore of the stem and the lining being correspond-- ingly tapered rearwardly. To removably retain the lining 11 in the stem I provide a' cap 12 in the form of .a ring that may be fitted and secured in any suitable manner onto the stem at the forward end, the means employed for the purpose in the illustrated Specification of Letters Patent.

example comprising a rearwardly extendingv I annular flange 13 on said cap having threads to engage similar threads on the adjacent end of the stem '10. The cap 12 presents a central boss 14 projecti rearwardly and advantageously inthe pre erred form tapering, said boss being adapted to fit snugly Within and bear algainst the forward end of the linin 11. he boss presents a free opening or the passage-of the smoke into the lining.
The stem thusprovided with thelining f and its retaining cap may,b e employed to ing to the interior of the boss 14, the bowl ".65 constitute a complete cigar holder or cigar ette holder, or a pipe bowl 15 may be adapted to the stem by being formed with a rear-; wardly extending protuberance. 16 conformhaving a short stem. portion on which said protuberance ,is'formed, the rear surface of the, stem presenting a shoulder -17 at the base of the rotuberance .16.to contact with the front 0 'the cap 12. A smoke,- assage 18 extends from the bowh through't e stem 17 and protuberance 16.
I would state in conclusion that while theillustrated example constitutes a practicalembodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in' the appended claims.
fHaving thus described my invention, I claim: I Figure 2 is an enlarged cross sectlon on ably secure it to t e stem andpresenting an 95 internal'member additional to said means and engaging said lining within the latter..
the class described include 2. In a device of the class described, a a A tubular lining adapted to be received in the stem of a pipe, or a cigar or cigarette holder,
having means to interiorly engage the linand a fastener for said lining, said fastener ing at the front end, and means to secure the fastener to the adjacent endof the stem.
3. A device of the class described adapt- 1 A ed to be applied to a stem of the indicated class, comprising a tubular lining for the stem, and a cap at the forward end of the of the stem.
4. A device of the class described includinga tubular lining adapted to be received in the stem of a pipe, or a cigar or a cigarette holder, and a retaining cap for said lining adapted to fit'the front end of the stem, said cap having a tubular boss projecting rearwardly and fitting in. the lining to removably secure the same while providing a passage for the smoke into the lining.
