To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALFRED E. POWELL, a citizen of Great Britain, Y residing at Bronxville, in the county of estchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Valve, of which the following is a specication.
vThis invention'relates to valves, and vmore particularly to valves employed in .flush tanks, the primary object of the invention being to provide a noiseless gravity controlled valve. V f
A further object ofthe invention is to provide means for converting the usual valve now in use, into a valve which may be used in connection with an elevated flush box, of the gravity controlled type, or one which may be used in connection with a relatively low flush box. Y
A still further object .of the invention is the provision of means to eliminate a suction of air being created by the water'passing through the valve, to render the device inoperative.
'Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds7 the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed7 without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the base of the valve which is provided with a threaded extension 6, and a lateral chamber 7, there being provided an opening in the upper` wall of the chamber to accommodate the pipe 8, which usually admits air to the valve.
Formedintegral with the base 5 is an upper flared portion 9 forming a valve seat,
for the ball valve 10, which fits within the mouth of the liared portion 9 to normally -prevent fluid from passing through the base.
A yoke indicated at 11 extends above the flared portion 9 and is provided with a suitable opening to accommodate the valve stem l2 which has its lower extremity removably connected to the ball valve 10, as at 13, so that .the valve member 10 may be readily and easily disconnected to permit of free access to the interior of the base 5.
The attachment, which forms the essence of the present invention includes a tongue .14 having an enlarged portion 15 formed integral therewith, there being provided an upwardly extending right angled flange 1.6, forming a part of the attachment, to partition the base 5 into a central compartment and a lateral compartment.
As shown, the tongue member 14 lies flush with the upper surface of the bottom of the. chamber 7 where the same is held in such position by means of the pin 17 which is carried by the vent pipe 8 and engages the tongue to force the same against the bottom of the chamber 7.
Thus it will be seen that as the valve member 10 is unseated, the water rushing downwardly through the valve and by the deflecting device of flange 16, is caused to be delivered laterally within the chamber 7, where the water rises to a level within the pipe 8 equal to the level of the water within the tank, thereby excluding all air from the tank and permitting the valve to operate by gravity.
It is to be understood that this attachment renders the device absolutely noiseless in operating as a `gravity controlled valve.
It might be further stated however that the partitioning member forming the essence of the invention, may be formed integral with the body of the valve during the casting of the valve. 1

In combination with a valve body including a lateral chamber and an upper iared portion providing a valve seat, a partitioning member including an enlarged portion, and an integral tongue portion adapted to extend into the lateral chamber, and a right angled flange forming a part of the enlarged portion for dividing the water passing through the body portion.
