Our invention relatestoi exercising de- Among the objects of our invention are:
To provide means for exercising the muscles which are used in jumping.
To 7 provide an exercising device which shall be simple, neat, cheap andattractive in appearance. 7
To provide an exercising device which shall afi'ord pleasant sensations during its use so that the children will be thereby induced to use the same frequently. 7
These and other objects. of our invention will be made apparent in the'accompanying specification and the novelty ofthe means by which said objects are etfectuated will be pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing: I
Figure 1 represents a side view of one of our improved exercising devices.
Fig. 2 is a view of the device shown in Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in said figure. 1
Fig. 3 is a section along the line 3-3 in Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
The body of our improved device consists of a base 5 united with the canvas side pieces minating at 77. The top 8 is also formed of canvas. The top 8 terminates at its rear end in the curve 8 which fits around the fiont of the instep of the shoe of the wearer.
The parts of the body thus far described are shaped to fit over an ordinary shoe and the front of the body may be shaped as at 9 to simulate the appearance of the head of Sohz'stocerau americzma, or said body may be shaped at the front end to simulate the head of any animal, and the legs may be shaped to simulate those of any animal.
The front ofthe body may be formed of painted canvas, papier mach, sheet metal or any other suitable material.
One of the side pieces 6-6 of the body is provided with strap 10 having a buckle 11 adapted to co-actwith thestrap 12 attached to the other side piece 6 in order to secure the body. upon the shoe or" the user;
The parts of the body may'be painted and'ornamented according to any approved design. Q l To the rear of the base piece 5 is secured in any approved manner a V portion 13 of a pairof legs 14-14; which are shaped as shown in Figs. land 2 in order. to simulate the appearance of the rear legs of Schismcerca amem'ccma and each leg terminates in an eye 15 in which is secured a rubber tread 16.
There are two forelegs 17-17 each of which is formed integrally with an intermediate leg 18. It is to be noted that the metal between one pair of legs 17 and 18 is twisted around the metal between the other pair of legs 17 and 18 as at 20 and the twisted portion of said legs is secured to the base piece 5 in any approved manner.
Each of the legs 1717 and 18-18 termi nates in an eye such as 21 in which is secured a rubber tread such as 22. V
The legs l4, l7 and 18 are preferably formed of spring steel and are to be of a strength suflicient to support the weight of the user when he is standing upon one foot.
The manner of use of our improved exercising device is as follows The shoe is introduced within the body and the body is secured to the shoe by means of the straps l0 and 12 and buckle 11, one of our improved devices being placed upon each foot. The user can then exercise by springing on one foot, landing on the other foot, spring from that foot and then landing on the first foot again and so on, or he may jump with both feet and land on both feet, jump with both feet and land on one foot, or jump with one foot and land on both feet, or make any combinations of movements with his feet that he may desire. In any case, he will spring or jump much farther than he would be able to without our improved device; and furthermore, the shock upon the system when alighting will be greatly reduced, thus enabling the user to cover considerable ground with a minimum effort.
Furthermore, the flapping of the wings 7 will greatly increasethe enjoyment of the users.
We claim 1-- 1. The combination with a bodyshaped in imitation of an animal, an opening for the introduction of a users foot within said body, and means for securing said body to said foot, of resilient legs simulating the legs of said animal secured to said body, said legs being sufficiently strong to yield ingly support said user.
2. The combination with a body and means for securing said body to the user, of a pair of spring legs secured near the rear end of said body, and a pair of forelegs secured near the frontof said body, each of said forelegs being formed integrally with an intermediate leg.
3. The combination with a body and meansfor securing said body to the user, of
a pair of spring legs secured near the rear end of said body and a pair of forelegs near the front of said body, each of said forelegs Vle s.
