To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Auous'r B. BECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Girdles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in ladies girdles of the type constructed of elastic material and provided with hose supporters.

One object of the invention is to provide a novel construction of girdle which will properly support the abdomen, even though the front part of the girdle may be pulled downwardly to quite an extent by the front hose supporters.

A further object is to provide wide fiat straps connecting the rear hose supporters with the elastic belt, said straps being positioned to pass vertically across the users hips whereby the rear hose supporters will exert a downward pull on the straps to hold the hips in an eflective manner, preventing undesirable movement, for instance when walking.

With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel construction and association of parts hereinafter described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a girdle constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View as indicated by line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section as designated by line 33 of Fig. 1.

In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1, designates an elastic belt whose ends meet at the front of the girdle and are provided with suitable fasteners 2.- A pair of horizontally elongated front flaps 3 are stitched at their outer ends to the front side of the belt 1 as seen at 4:, preferably on somewhat diagonal lines as shown, while the inner ends of the flaps are provided with snap fasteners 5 by means of which they may be detachably connected. shall be relatively. inelasticsince each one i of themcarries a pair of front hose supporters 6 which would greatly distort the flaps if they were of elastic material. Even when the flaps are made of inelastic material, the hose supporters 6 pull them downwardly to quite an extent, but never- The rear portion of the belt 1 is provided 3 with a pair of wide flat straps 7 which depend from said belt in position to extend vertically across the users hips. The lower ends of these straps carry rear hose supporters 8 and when these hose supporters are attached to the stockings, they exert a downward pull on the straps 7, pulling the latter tightly across the hips and preventing undesirable movement of the latter, for instance when walking;

The upper ends of the straps 7 preferably extend into and form part of the belt 1 as shown, this construction being more advantageous than if the straps were merely secured to the lower edge of the belt, since under the latter construction, the belt would be transversely stretched.

By constructing the device in or approximately in the manner shown and described, it may be easily and inexpensively manufactured and marketed, yet will be highly efficient and in every way desirable, and since excellent results have been obtained from the details disclosed, such details may be'followed if desired, but I wish it understood that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous changes may be made.

I claim:

1. A girdle comprising an elastic belt whose ends meet at its front, a-pair of op posed inelastic flaps at the front side of the belt carrying hose supporters, means securing the outer ends only of said flaps to said belt, means for detachably connecting the inner ends of said flaps with each other, and means for detachably connecting the ends of said elastic belt to each other behind and free of said flaps, whereby to effectively support the abdomen independently of said flaps.
