Fig. 6 is a perspective view as seen from the rear showing the modified form of accessory embodying the invention shown in Fig. 5 fitted on the torso of a womans body wearing panties similar to Fig. 3, with the elastic panel member construction sectionalized and buckled together at the rear.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary portion of still another modified construction of an improved multi-service belt embodying the invention showing a resilient anchorage of a ii-formation for the hosiery garter support and for abdominal control, selectively suitable for the front or rear panel members or both, partly broken away to expose said resilient anchorage.
in womens undergarments heretofore made when worn to serve as hose supports and abdominal control the pull exerted on the stockings frequently cause such undergarment to become undesirable displaced by creeping down from the waist-line to the discomfort of the wearer. Where provision is made to overcome such undesirable displacement it has heretofore been necessary to complicate such undergarment construction and to restrict to some extent the freedom of the hip joint movements to unwanted degree.
To eliminate these undesirabie causes and unwanted restrictions, and if desired to make available suitable attachment for crotch extension, such as forming so-called scanties or briefs, and a sanitary napkin supports in proper effective position concurrently and in an improved manner with the highly efficient and practical services for controlling the abdominal region and garters supporting the stockings, there may be provided womens multiservice undergarment accessories or combination belts 10 constructed to embody the invention, which may serve to eliminate any requirement of wearing crotch extending separate undergarments such as scanties, briefs or other means often used to support a sanitary napkin.
Saidmulti-service undergarment accessory 10, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2, includes a front panel member 11 which may be constructed of under-layer 11a and superimposed outer-layer 11b in double ply relation of relatively inelastic sheet material. Said panel member 11 may be made to extend up to waist-line W when fitted to a Wearers torso or trunk T, over the abdominal region A, and to extend down a distance insufiicient to interfere with freedom of hip joint movements of the wearer, that is, being of a width short of plane H, of the hip joints and crotch C. Hip joint plane H. is indicated in Fig. l by a dot and dash line.
Upper horizontally extending edge borders of underlayer 11a and outer layer 1112 of panel 11 may be made substantially straight, and secured together with a reinforcing elongated edge tape 11c extending along the upper border edge corresponding to waist line W of the wearer by means of suitable stitches, as for example, the double row shown in the drawing. The lower horizontally extending edge borders of said under-layer 11a and outer layer 11b of said panel 11 may be made and finished with elongated edge tapes 11d and lie, respectively. Spaced portions of said edge tapes 11d and He may be stitched or tacked as at 11x to provide spaced apart openings or passages 11] and 11g, provided between said edge tapes 11d and 11a for the free passage of elongated vertically extending elastic ribbon garters l2 and 13 through said openings 11] and 11g, respectively, in the manner hereinafter described.
Panel member 11 may extend horizontally lengthwise across the wearers front abdominal region A of torso or trunk T, end edge 1112 of said member 11 being secured in any suitable manner, as by stitches 11 with elastic insert panel section 14. The other end edge 11m of said panel member 11 opposite said insert panel section end 1111 may be provided with suitable detachable fasteners, such as hook and eyes 15 for releasable securing to another elastic panel section 16 similar to elastic panel section 14.
If desired each end edges 11h and 11m of panel member 11 may be reinforced by providing short stays or bones 24 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Each elastic panel 14 and 16 may be made to extend a distance sufficient to overlie the hip region of torso T as shown in Fig. 1, and edges 14a and 16a, of elastic panel sections 14 and 16, respectively, may be secured in any suitable manner as by stitches 14b and 16b, respectively, to a single layer rear panel 17 which in width extends down below the level of lower horizontally extending border edge of panel 11 sufficiently to partialiy overlie the gluteal or buttocks region when fitted to the wearer as is clear from Fig. 3. Said rear panel 17 may be provided with a suitable reinforcing edge tape 17a and has spaced apart vertically extending elastic ribbon garters 13 and 19 secured thereto to be suspended from a lower end portion of rear panel 17 as by stitches 17b.
Said spaced apart vertically extending elastic ribbon garters 12 and 13 may have the garter upper ends 12:. and 13a, respectively, thereof suitably secured to a horizontally extending elastic cross-ribbon or tape 20, as by anchoring stitches 20a. Said cross-tape 20 may be disposed to lie fiat between said panel under-layer 11a and outer-layer 11b at a spaced distance above the lower edges of panel 11 so as to provide an elastic free movement suspension construction for the hose ribbon garters 12 and 13, with respect to panel 11 through edge opening or passages 11f and 11g, respectively, limited by stitches 11x which forms an abutment at panel lower edge border between passages 11 and 11g. Said elastic cross-tape 20 and spaced apart secured upper garter ends 12a and 13a may thus be enveloped between said under and upper layers 11a and 11b to present smooth unrufiied surfaces for accessory 10, as is clear from Figs. 1 and 2.
Each of the lower of free ends of hose support ribbon elastic garters 12, 13, 18, and 19 may terminate with a suitable quick attaching and detaching conventional clamp buckles 21 for releasably securing to the top hem of the hose or stocking S in the well understood manner, and as shown in Fig. 1.
Where it is desired to have undergarment accessory serve to carry a crotch extension such as a sanitary napkin for concurrent service with the abdominal control and hose support, suitable attachment means, such as reinforced button, loops or eyelet holes, 22 and 23 may be provided in a lower mid-portion of front panel 11 and rear panel 17, respectively, wherewith releasable attachment fitting, as indicated in dotted lines at N in Fig. 1, may be provided and utilized in the well known manner to properly position a sanitary napkin (not shown) to extend through the crotch C.
From the above description and the drawing the utility of the improved multi-service undergarment accessory invention is readily understood. Accessory 10, after being completely manufactured from the parts thereof as described above and as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, provides an improved structural combination which serves when fitted to the waist line of the wearer as a highly efficient and practical control means extending to overlie the abdominal region A and also as a hosiery support for the stocking S.
The insert elastic panel section 14 and 16 together with elastic cross-tape 20 within the front panel 11 cooperate to self-retaining accessory 10 in properly fitted position at the waist line W and reduces to a minimum any tendency to creep or be displaced for such position. The stresses and strain exterted on garters 12 and 13 due to body movements are taken up not only by said garters but also by the suspension thereof from elastic crosstape leaving panel under and outer layers 11a and 11b, respectively, relieved to retain the position panel member 11 since the inner and outer layers thereof permitted said garters and cross-tape 20 by the construction above described to take up such stresses and strain, stitches 11x limiting the maximum free downward movement of the cross tape 20. Rear panel 17 partially covers the buttocks region from which hosiery garters 18 and 19 depend as is clear from Figs. 1 and 2.
Accessory 19 may be readily fitted to the wearers body by applying the same about the waist line W and engaging the hook and eye 15 and thereafter securing the clamp buckles 21 terminating garters 12, 13, 18 and 19 to the upper hems of stockings in the well understood manner.
Accessory may also be provided with a crotch extension to eliminate the wearing of scanties, or briefs,
or for supporting a sanitary napkin from suitable attachment means N of any well known make from loops or holes 22 and 23, such extension being fitted to pass under the crotch C, as is clear from Figs. 1 and 2.
In Fig. 4, a modified embodiment of the invention is shown in which undergarment accessory 30 may if desired have parts thereof constructed as described above and shown in Figs. 1 to 3 with at waist line belt having suitable hook and eye fasteners 15, and a front panel member 11, the latter having an under and an outer layer 11a, 11b, respectively, formed with spaced apart edge passages 17" and 11g, for elastic hose garters 12 and 13 respectively to pass therethrough. Also said accessory 30 may selectively include elastic panel inserts 14 and 16 as in the aforementioned described construction of accessory 10. The rear panel section 17 of accessory 10, however, instead of being made of a single sheet material may be constructed like said front panel member 11, and as here shown comprises rear panel member 31, with underlayer 31a and superimposed outer layer 31b in double ply relation. Said rear panel member 31 like front panel member 11 may be made to extend up to waist line and to extend down for partial covering the buttock region with elastic ribbon garters 32 and 33 suspended from panel member 31 each of said garters terminating in a clamp buckle 41 positioned to engage wearers stockings. Said rear panel member layers 31a and 31b enclosing elastic cross-ribbon or tape 40 to which the upper ends 32:: and 32b of said garters 32 and 33 are anchored similar to that described above for accessory 10, and function in a like manner.
In Fig. 5 another modified embodiment of the invention is shown in which undergarment accessory 50 may also if desired have parts thereof made as described above and shown in Figs. 1 to 3 except as here shown, whereby a less expensive and a more simplified construction can be produced.
Whereas, said accessory 10 has a two spaced apart insert elastic panel sections 14 and 16 disposed to extend over the hip region of the wearer with the hook and eye fasteners 15 incorporated in the waist line belt between hip elastic panel section 14 and rear panel member 17, in modified embodiment accessory 5-3, shown in Fig. 5 the front panel member 11 may be made like that described above for accessory 10 with under and outer layers 11a and 11b, respectively, and the elastic cross-tape 20 positioned and enclosed between said layers 11a and 11b and having hose garters 12 and 13, resiliently suspended from said elastic tape 20. However, only one insert elastic panel section 54 is utilized and forms part of a rear panel section of accessory 5i}.
Said insert elastic panel section 54 may be positioned to extend between front panel member 11 and a hip cucircling panel member 46 of a single ply sheet material, the latter being secured by suitable stitches 45a to one end of front panel member 11. The other end of panel member 11 has secured thereto by stitches 44a another similar MAN hip encircling panel member 44, said panel members 44 and 46 being releasable united for rear buckling together as-shown in Fig. 6 to complete the waist line belt when said accessory 50 is worn titted to the wearers body by suitable quick engaging and disengaging means provide and cooperatively carried by said insert panel section 54 and panel member 44, such as hook and eye fasteners 45. Button holes or looped tabs 22 and 23 on front panel 11 and carried by said insert panel section 54 respectively, may be provided for securing ends of a crotch extension such as a sanitary napkin through suitable attachment as for example shown at N in Figs. 1 and 2. Said panel members 44 and 46 serve the same purpose as rear panel member 17 of accessory 11 and have suspended therefrom hose supporting garters 18 and 1 each terminated with a clamp buckle 21.
It is thus seen that insert elastic panel section 54 serves to snugly retain accessory 50 in proper waist line position for cooperation with front panel member 11 to support the stockings of the wearer and to concurrently serve if desired as a scantie, brief or sanitary napkin retaining means in the same manner as with accessory 10, and 30 described above.
Still another modified construction embodying the invention is shown in Fig. 7 in which front, or rear panel members or both, of accessories 10, 30 or 50 described above may selectively be made to have instead of either said panel member 11 or 31, improved panel member 61. The latter may include a resilient anchorage for hose supporting garters 62 and 63, and an abdominal control of V-formation provide by an elastic tape 70 enveloped between under and outer layers 61a and 6112 respectively, of said panel member 61 to which upper garter ends 62a and 63a are secured, lower free end as said garters 62 and 63 terminating in stocking buckles 71.
Opposite ends 70a and 70b of elastic tape 70 may be secured to end seamed edge borders 61h and 61m, respectively of panel 61 and down pointed end 70c of said V- formation tape 70 secured to a mid portion of lower panel member edge 610 between passages 61 and 61g through which said garters 62 and 63, respectively, pass. Said pointed end 79c may serve as a reinforced anchorage for crotch extension support such as loop 22.
Said accessories 18, 30, 50 and 60 each may be utilized for the same purposes and in the manner described above.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a womens undergarment accessory of the character described whereby the several objects of this invention are achieved and which will be well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be underwood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
