HANDBAG.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec. 27, 1921.
Application filed August 30, 1920. Serial No. 406,971.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon H. Mn'rrni- NICH, a former subject of the Emperor of Germany, having declared my intention of becoming a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook. and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handbags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in womens handbags and has for its primary object the provision of a combination hand bag, card case and purse. 7
A further object of my invention is the provision of a combination hand bag, card case and purse of such construction that the user may have access to the card case and purse without the usual discomforture of iaving to disturb the contents of the hand ba roper.
6t er objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings formin a part of this specification, and in whic Figure 1 is a side view of the hand bag showing the exterior position of the purse and card case.
Fig. 2is'a side view of the opposite side of the hand bag.
Fig. 3 is a side view showing the card case and purse opened.
Fig. 4 is a side view showing the view of a portion of the interior of the hand bag, and
Fig. .5 is a view showing both the purse and card case and the be opened.
The preferred form 0 construction consists of a hand bag 1 of any shape and made of any of the usual materials, and having a rectangular shaped opening 2 cut in one side adjacent the top. The edges of cloth forming the opening 2 are clamped between the edges of a frame 3. Hingedly mounted on the top of the frame 3 is a frame 4 of the same size and construction as the frame 3. Clamped between the bent-in edges of the frame 4 is a fibrous silk covered member 5 and mounted on the inner side of said member 5 is 9. looking glass 6.
Hingedly mounted on the lower edge of the member 4 is a closure member 7 said closure member 7 consisting of a frame of the same construction as the members 3 and 4 except that a durable flexible material is clamped between the inturned edges of the frame. Mounted between the members 4 and 7 is a collapsible card case and a purse 8 of the usual. COIlS'tI'llLtiGll, said card. case and purse 8 having several compartments wherein articles such cards, money and car tickets may be placed. Fixed to the sides of the member 3, adjacent the top edge, are links 9 which are adapted to receive the opposite ends of a holding strap 10 of any desired construction.
Locks of any construction may be pro vided for the bag and card case, the ones herein shown comprising a ball and socket lock 11 for the hand bag and a snap lock 12 for the card case.
I-Ieretofore users of hand bags have been forced to search through the entire contents of the hand bag in order to find cards, small coins, car tickets and the like and inasmuch as women carry powder, rouge and other articles of feminine adornment within the hand bag, the contents are usually soiled or mussed up. I have provided a bag which allows quick and ready access to articles such as car tickets, coins or cards and also provides a space for more bulky and less freelv used articles.
lVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An article of the class described com prising a hand bag having an opening on one side thereof; a frame around said opening; carrying means on said frame; a, closure member for said opening hingedly mounted near the to j of the openmg; means for looking said 0 osure member and said bag; a. purse hingedly mounted on the exterior side of said closure member; and means whereby said purse may be locked, substantially as descrlbed.
2. An article of the class described, comprising a hand bag having an opening on one side adjacent the top; a closure member hingedly mounted to the top side of said opening; a purse hingedly mounted on the exterior side adjacent the lower edge of said closure member; and means for locking said hand bag and said purse, substantially as described.
3. An article of the class described, comprising; a hand bag having an opening on one side adjacent the top; a rigid metallic frame surrounding said opening; a closure member hingedly mounted at the top side of said metallic frame; a metallic frame hing; edly mounted to the lower edge of said closure member; a flexible material mounted in said. frame; and collapsible compartments fixed to said. closure member and said frame, substantially as described.
a 4. An article of the class described, conr prising a hand bag having an opening on one side adjacent the top; a rigid metallic frame surrounding said opening; a closure member hingedly mounted at the top side of said metallic frame; a metallic frame hingedly mounted to the lower edge ol said closure member; a flexible material mounted in said frame; collapsible compartments fixed to said closure member and said frame:
and means for locking said bag and said purse, substantially as described.
5. An article of the class described comprising a hand bag having an opening on one side adjacent the top; a rigid metallic tramc surrounding said opening; a closure member hingedly mounted at the top side oi": said metallic frame; a metallic l'rame hing-edly mounted to the lower edge of said closure member; a flexible material mounted in said frame; collapsible compartments fixed to A
