ROBINSON,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF SUMMIT, NEW JERSEY.
LIGHTING-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 27, 1921.
Application filed January 6, 1921. Serial No. 435,311.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GROSVENOR P. Roam- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Summit, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Lighting-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to lighting fixtures of the semi-indirect character, particularly ceiling fixtures, and is an improvement upon the fixture shown and described in my copending application, Serial No. 370,967, filed April 3, 1920, in which the relative positions of the lamp filament, bowl, and reflector are such that the light from the lamp impinges upon both the inner and outer surfaces of the reflector, the objects of the present invention being to facilitate the hanging of the bowl; the attachment or detachment of the same, providing free access to the lamp, and the prevention of movement of the reflector when the parts are assembled.
The details of the invention are hereinafter particularly described.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1, is an elevation, partly in section, showing a lighting fixture embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, partly broken away.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section of the support for the reflector, taken on the broken line 3--3, Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken on the broken line 4-4, Fi 2.
Similar reference characters enote like parts throughout the several views.
The lamp socket 10, is supported from the ceiling, or outlet box therein, in any suitable manner.
11, denotes the socket cover, and 12, an incandescent lamp of high efliciency.
A'ring 13, provided with an annular flange 14, is supported by a plurality of arms 15, in such manner that the plane of the flange 14, bisects the verticalaxis' of the lamp filament. The upper ends of the arms 15, are riveted or otherwise secured to the socket cover 11, while their lower ends are riveted to or otherwise attached to the ring 13.
16, indicates an u wardly flaring reflector preferably of meta, and provided with a circular opening in its bottom of a size to fit over and surround the vertical portion of the ring 13, and seat upon the upper surface of the annular flange 14. It will thus be reflector will impinge directly upon the inner surface of the reflector.
17 denotes a bowl, preferably of translucent material, thicker and somewhat more shallow than the bowls usually employed in fixtures of this character.
The upper part of this bowl is of greater diameter than the opening in the bottom of the reflector, but of less diameter than the upper portion of the reflector.
I prefer that the bowl 17, be hung so that the flange 14 of the ring 13 is slightly below the top edge of the bowl, or in other words, so that the bottom of the reflector 16, and top edge of the bowl are in the same horizontal plane.
As a means for hanging the bowl 17, I provide a frame comprlsing a plurality of outwardly and upwardly curved wire arms 18, (preferably three), fastened at their lower ends to a plate or hub 19, provided with a screw 20, extending downwardly therefrom through a hole in the bottom of the bowl 17, upon the projecting end of which is screwed a nut 21, preferably having a flange 22 hearing against the bottom of the bowl thereby securing the hanger frame to the bowl.
The upper ends of the arms 18, are overturned outwardly forming hooks 23. These hooks are adapted to take over the vertical member of the ring 13, thereby supporting the bowl therefrom, and .furthermore the ends of the hooks bear upon the reflector 16, holding the same against movement in case of jar.
It will be readily understood that the arms 18 canbe forced upwardly through the ring 13, until the hooks 23 pass above the top of the ring when the arms will spring outwardly bringing the hooks into position to be drawn down over the vertical member of lamp, while movement of the reflector is pre vented in case of jar I claim as my invention:
1. In a lighting fixture, the combination of a lamp and socket therefor, a socket cover, a ring provided with an annular flange, a plurality of arms secured at their upper ends to the socket cover and at their lower ends to said ring whereby said ring is supported with the plane of its flange bisecting the axis of the lamp filament, an upwardly flaring reflector having an opening in its bottom surrounding said ring and seated upon its flange, a bowl, and means for detachably suspending the same from said ring. a
2. In a lighting fixture, the combination of,a lamp and socket therefor, a socket cover, a ring provided with an annular flange, a plurality of arms secured at their upper ends to the socket cover and at their lower ends to said ring whereby the ring is supported with the plane of its flange bisecting the axis of the lamp filament, an upwardly flaring reflector having an opening in its bottom surrounding said ring and seated upon its flange, a bowl, and a skeleton frame attached thereto comprising a plurality of spaced arms hooked-shaped at their free ends to take over said ring whereby the bowl is dereflector having an opening in its bottom surrounding said ring and seated upon its flange, a bowl, a supporting frame there-for comprising a plurality of arms secured at their lower ends to a hub, their free ends being overturned to take over said ring and bear upon the reflector, and means for securing said frame to the bowl.
Signed by me this 22nd day of December,
GEOSVENOR P. RO'BlNSON.
