(emran man In rnovrsrons or rim acr'. or nancn a, 1921, 41 sur. 1., 1m.
To all whom it may concern: u Be it known that I, Jaxon MANZ, mechanician, a citizen of theswlss Confederation,
which comprise a'fuelreceptacle provided with an-opening and containing an absorbent material, such as felt impregnated with a'volatile combustible oil, a strikln pin provided with an absorbent wad an to enter the receptacle through said opening, the said receptacle. and striking pin being connected with spark roducing elements adapted to coiiperate with each other. The spark prodiicing element on the striking pin is' usually made of hard metal and that on the receptacle of; flint or a pyrophoric allo The fuel receptacle may contain a per orated tube extending inwardly from the said 0 ening and adapted to receive the striking pm. In a known instrument of this kind the fuel rece acle is mounted on a base, and the. spar producing element is "mounted on the said base and consists of a long block or stri held in a groove provided with outwar ly'extending flanges, the
part supporting the said block thus forming an element separate from the receptacle, but connected with the same by means of the sa'gl base and the said ,flanges being relatively narrow.
The" resent'invention has for its object to simpli y the construction and increase the 'utilit of such instruments. I
F0 t his purposethe fuel receptacle consists offia, specially shaped 'box, made of sheet metal, the front 0 said box bein formed by a'right hand and a left han half converging symmetrically inward toward the center'line, so as to form an obtuse angle in the apex of which issituated a narrow groove adapted to contain a strip of sparking material which is inserted. into the groove.

an example embodying my B-B of Rig; 3.
residingat London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ing provided with a flan adapted tact with the sides of the central openifi.
referably In the. accompanying drawing Figure 1 is an axial section through the reservoir olding the absorbent material, along v a indicates a shee for screwing it to a wal b.-1nd1cates a piece ofabsorbent material filling the interior of the reservoir a and provldedwith an axial opening b and?) is a metallic; guide. tube or lining fixed to the top of the receptacle by means of a flange b i c a striking pin which is normally suspended in the tube by means of a head a resting on the top of the casing, and which t metal reservoir or casa having holes a has a steelcore c surrounded on a part of its length by an asbestos tuft c held by a metallic clip a secured to the pin a. The said head 0 forms with the opening in the top of the casing an air-tight joint, for which purpose it is preferably madeaconical, as shown. The'guide' tube shown in Fig. 2 may be solid, or it may havelateral perforations.
The striking pin extends substantially-below the guide tube, so' as to touch the lower part of the felt.
In the modification representedby Fig. 4 the ide tube is longer and must be part0 rated, so that the petrol reaches the asbestos through the perforations of the tube.
According to the modification indicated by Fig. 5 the guide tube b, is omitted, and the asbestos of the striking pin a is in direct con- To facilitate the construction of ahe e tjically closed reservoir the latter is composed a. The felt is introducedintothe casing from the open aback and then the casing soldered on the base plate. WhatIclaimim-e In' an ingniting instrument of the kind described, a, fuel reservoir adapted to be ver symmetrically toward the center line an having in the apex of the angle thus formed a strip of frictional igniting material fixed in the said face, substantially as described.
In Mimony whereof I have-hereunto set JAKOB "of two main parts, viz. the casing open at'the back, and the base plate forming the flange .mounted on'a stationary base and having a flface composed of right and a left half con-
