Specification of Letters Patent. l atbtgntggqfl Deb 2(1) 11921 Application filed February 25, 1920. Serial No. 361,188.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PRQVIMUHS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L, 1313.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Farmer BERTRON, citizen of the Republic of France, residing at 60 Square Francois Riga, Brussels, in the Kingdom of Belgium, have invented new and useful Improvements in Signs Luminous by Reflection, for which applications have been filed in foreign countries as follows: in Belgium, May 28, 1914; in France, June 30, 1914.; in Spain, Aug. 1, 1918, and Italy, May 23, 1919, and of which the fol lowing is a specification.
The present invention relates to the production of signs, letters and generally speaking of designs of all kinds which are rendered luminous by reflection. By means of the saidprocess, it is possible to obtain the illuminatlon of inscriptions or other signs without consumption of light of any kind and in a simple and economical manner.
The invention is shown by way of example on the annexed drawing in which:
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a section and a front view of a form of execution of said invention and Fig. 3 is a section of another form of execution. I
In order to carry the invention into practice, signs made of any suitable material are formed by pouring said material, such as stafi', paste board, stone, plaster, etc., into suitable molds in order to obtain signs reproducing in relief the inscriptions or desi ns des1red.-
astilles or disks of any desired outline, preferably made of glass, and gilt or silvered are applied on the signs so made by means of any suitable adhesive material, said dish being concave or convex.
Figs. 1 and 2 show an application of convex glass disks. According to this form of the invention, the sign 1 carries the convex glass disks 2 which may be cemented on projections in relief a provided on the sur- I and thin,
face of the sign at the points where the dlsks are to be ed form of the reliefs corresponding to the hollow form of the disks. h
Fig. Sshows an application of concave disks according to which the disks are located in recesses or. depressions 5 provided in the body of the sign 1.
It is also possible to devise other means for utilizing concave or convex luminous disks of the kind above described in order to form signs or inscriptions, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Havlng now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by 'Letters Patent is:
1. A luminous sign comprising amolded sign body having seatings formed thereon in the molding operation and thin, metal coated cup shaped disks cemented on said seatings and arrangedto form the outlines of the characters constituting the luminous slgn.
2. A luminous sign comprising a molded sign body having rounded projections formed thereon in the molding operation and thin, metal coated, cup shaped disks cemented on said rounded projections and arranged to form the outlines of the characters constituting the luminous sign.
3. A luminous sign comprising a molded sign body having rounded projections formed thereon in the molding operation metal coated, cup shaped, glass disks cemented on said rounded projections and arranged to form the outlines of the characters constituting the luminous si In testimony whereof I have signs my name to this specification in the two subscribing witnesses.
