ELECTRICAL SWITCH.
T0 all whom z't may concern Be it known that I, BRYsoN D. HoR'roN, a citizen of the United States, residin troit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Electrical Switches, of which the following is a description.
This invention relates to electric fuseholding switches and with regard 4to certain more specific features thereof to fuse-holding switches of the pivotally movable type.
The invention has for one of its objects to simplify and otherwise improve the means for associating the switch parts and contacts whereby a fuse-holding carrier may be pivotally moved relatively toits base for the purpose of interrupting the continuity of an electric circuit.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in' part pointed out hereinafter, and reference should be had tomyco-pending application filed November 10, 1917, Serial No. 201,219.
The invention accordingly consists of the various featuresv of construction, combinat1on of elements and arrangements of parts which will be exemplified by the construction hereinafter set forth and the scope of the invention Will be indicated in the following claim.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is indicated at 1 a base block of insulating material, upon which are mounted three sets of xed contacts 2 2 3 3 and 4 4. The set 2 2 is disposed intermediate the other two sets and comprises a pair of angle member contacts having up- 'standing blades or supporting portions 5 against which attaching portions 6 of fuseholding contacts 7 abut. Each of the fuseholding contacts 7 is provided in addition to the attaching portion mentioned, with side walls 8 bowed inwardly as at 9, and carried out in the form of spaced parallel contact jaws l0.

A bridging element or carrier is indicated at 11, as being of frame construction, comprising four cylindrical posts 15 connected` khandle 19 for the purpose of operating the On either side of ther bridging element. bridging element one of the metal clamping elements 16 isv extended inthe form of a flat rectangular projection 20 bent back upon itself as at 21 to provide a double thickness of metal.
The structure being similar on opposite sides of the switch, a description of the structure of one side will be sufficient. The fuse-holding contact 7 has its Hat attaching portion abutting the supporting or upstanding portion 5 of the angle member contact 2.
The double thickness of metal on the eXtension of the clamping element 16 is fitted within the side walls 8 ofthe fuse-holding contact and all three parts are secured together in good electrical and retaining connection by a pivot screw 25, which passes through the angle member and the attaching portion 6 of the fuse-holding contact 7 and taps into the double thickness 20-21, of the carrier extension. It is intended that these parts should be held in good electrical communication with each other, while at the same time permitting pivotal movement of the carrier and fuse-receiving contact relatively to the contact 2 fixed on the base. In carrying out this ideaa spring disk or ywasher 26 is interposed between the angle member and a head 27 on the pivot screw 25. By means of this washer and the pivot screw a suitable degree of friction may be secured.
Screws 30, which secure the clamping elements 16 on the outer or free end of the carrier, are of suitable length to pass through apertures 31 in blade contacts 32, and also through apertures 33 in fuse-holding contacts 34. The latter are of similar shape and construction to thecontacts 7 and between the side walls thereof rectangular metal nuts are positioned into which the screws 30 are threaded. It will be obvious, therefore, that'the contacts 32 are movable with the carrier through its pivotal range and preferably these contacts are of the double-throw type, so that if the carrier is moved from the position shown in Fig. 2
through an angle of 180 degrees, the contacts 32 will engage with the contacts 4-4' on the base.
In the embodiment shown, the cylindrical posts 15 are composed of bushings of insulating material reinforced by metal rods of small diameter. It will be obvious that the fuse-holding contacts are relatively insulated on either side of the carrier, it being intended to make the sole electrical connection through detachable fuses 40 preferably of the inclosed type comprising a shell 4l of insulating material, metal end caps 42 and flattened terminals 43 projecting beyond said end caps. These terminals are adapted to be inserted between the parallel jaws of the fuse-receiving clips, whereby electrical communication'is established between inner Aof the various parts and `contacts to secure pivotal movement ofthe carrier relatively to the base, and also to provide simple, inexpensive and compact means for attaching the fuse-receiving contacts to the carrier and in turn to the base.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and as many apparently widely different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter set forth in the foregoing description or yshown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Vhat is claimed is: ln a fuse-holding switch, in combination, abase, an angle member mounted thereon, a' fuse-holding contact having laterally eX- tending jaws, side walls and a fiat attaching portion, the said attaching portion abutting an arm of the angle member, a bridging element comp-rising a metal extension fitted between the side walls of said fuse-holding contact, means comprising a pivot screw for associating the angle member, carrier extension and fuse-holding contact together in electrical communication and providing for the movement of said carrier pivotally relatively to said base, coperating contacts, one on said base `and one on said bridging element near the free end thereof, and a second fuse-holding contact carried by said bridg. ing with the.last said contact.
