Be it lrnmvn that l, Janus tlAYir-i, a citizen of Syria and aresident of: the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county oi": Kings and State of New York,
have invented a new and lmproved .timnsement Device, of which the following is a lull, clear and exact description.
This inventionrelates to amusement de vices and has particular reference to carousels adapted to installed in amusement parks. i l y The invention contemplates and has for its 1orincipalobj ect to provide a highly amusing and extremely attractive device which is comparatively simple and inexpenslve in construction and operatlon, inexpensive to manufacture and install and which includes the features of strength and durability.
Another object of the invention is to provide an amusement device of the carousel type which includes a plurality of annular series of oarsand means for driving the same in circular undulating paths and in opposite directions whereby to impart to the riders a new and amusing sensation.
A stillzturther object of the invention is to provide-an amusement device of this character which includes a plurality of series or movable cars with means for drivingeach alternate series of cars in opposite directions and eachseries at different rates of speed whereby the riders inayhave a choice of selection at a speed at which they desire to travel. f

lleterring to the drawings by characters or reference, 10 designates a stationary circular run-way having inner and outer vertical side walls 11 and 12 and a cover wall 13 connecting the same. The top wall is undulated to constitute a series of elevations over which the cars 14- are adapted to travel. The cover wall is provided with a plurality of concentric circular slots 15 which establish communication to the interior of the run way. An annular series of cars are adapted to be connected to each. of the channel. frames 19 by means of the tractor arms 22 which extend through the slots 15. Each. arm 22 has a wrist pin connection 23 with the underside of its respective car and is bifurcated at its opposite end as at 53 to provide the HlJlGl'tlllGCl knuckles 35 whichare received between the spaced knuckiss 26 of a bracket 2'1" secured to the upper side of the channel members 19. The center knuckle 26 is provided with an upstanding integrallug 9.7 which is adapted to co-act with the bifurcated extremity 24: whereby to limitthe upward swinging movement of the surface of the cover wall 13 and straddle the slots 15. It will beobvious from this arrangement'that rotationof the channel members 19 will draw cars 23 around the runway, the connection therebetween serving to permit the same to raise and lower inconformity with the undulations in the upper surface of the cover wall. It is also apparent that the h1g2? will serve to prevent the momentum of the cars when the frames 19 are stopped, from advancing the wrist pin connection 23 past the knuckle connection at its opposite end.
The mechanism for driving the alternate series of cars in opposite directions comprises a vertical stub shaft 30 mounted between each of the frames 19. A master gear 31 is keyed to each stub shaft and meshes respectively with the gears 32 and 33 keyed to the counter shafts Set and 35 which are mounted on diametrically opposite sides of the stub sha its 80. A second gear36 is keyed to each of the counter shafts 34 and 35 and the same mesh with the annular rack bars 37 secured in the confronting open sides of the channel frames 19. Each stub shaft has keyed to its lower extremity a beveled pinion 38 which meshes with a beveled gear 39 on a common drive shaft L0 having a driven pulley 41 secured thereon and over which the drive belt 42 is trained. The belt 42 is further trained over the drive pulley 43 of a power plant 44. From this construction it will be seen that rotation of the drive shaft 40 will effect simultaneous rotation of the stub shafts 30 in the same direction and through the gears 31, 32, 33-, 36 and the racks 37, each alternate frame 19 will be driven in opposite directions to effect movement of each alternate series of cars in opposite direction at various rates of speed for the reason that the outer series ofcars is compelled to travel a greater distance than the inner series. In order to provide means to permit the riders to gain access tothe cars, the outer side wall 12 is provided with an entrance door 4:5 and a stairway 46 is arranged in the space in the centerof the run-way where'the riders may ascend to board the various cars. The cars maybe constructed to simulate any animalor vehicle desired and'the same are preferably provided with a cock pit 47 having a seat 48 WVhile there has been illustrated and described a single and preferred embodiment of the invention, it is understood that the right is reserved to others than those actually illustrated herein, to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed and by variations in the phraseology of the same.
I claim 1. .In an amusement device, a stationary annular run-way having an undulating surface provided withconcentric annular slots, a plurality of concentric circular rows of carsmovable thereover, common means for driving the same in opposite directions,
swinging means for connecting the cars to the driving means through said slot to compensate for the relative vertical movements ofthe cars with respect to the driving means,
and means for preventing the advancement of the cars beyond their connection with the driving means.
2. rinamuscment device of the carousel type, comprising a stationary circular housing including inner and outer valls and an undulating cover wall having a plurality of concentric slots, a plurality of circular tracks supported within said housing and respec tively disposed beneath each slot, a plurality of circular frames mounted respectivcl y on each track for relative rotation with respect thereto, mechanism for driving each alternate frame in opposite directions, a plurality of rows of cars, and a swinging tractor connection between each car and its respective frame, said tractor connections extending through the slots.

An amusement device of the carousel type, comprising a stationary circular housing including inner and outer walls and an undulating cover wall having a plurality of concentric slots, a plurality of circular tracks supported within said housing and respectively disposed beneath each slot, a plurality of circular frames mounted respectively on each track for relative rotation with respect thereto, mechanism for driving each alternate frame in opposite directions at various rates of speed, a plurality of rows of cars, and a swinging tractor connection between each car and its respective frame. said tractor connections extending through the slots.
