,i ateiited rev. 29, 1921.
Application filed .Eebruary 14, 192,1. serial Noi i lfii.
Be it known that I, Gnonen BEEN, a citizen of the United States, resident of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVieinorandum-Files, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a plate adapted for mounting a well-known paper clip thereon adapted for gripping papers, the clip being so arranged that it can not be pulled ofi the plate and may be used for hanging the plate with the memorandum papers on the wall.
A further object is to provide a memorandum file embodying an improvement over the file shown in application Serial No. 369,172, March 27 1920.
My invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims. r
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a front view of a memorandum file embodying my invention,
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, V
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing the manner. of mounting the clip on the plate, V
Fig. 4 is a view showing the position sumed by the clip jaw when it is moved to allow the insertion of papers into the file,
Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the opening in the memorandum plate. through which the spring of the clip is inserted.
In the drawing, 2 represents a plate adapted to receive a memorandum sheet having preferably a longitudinal flange 3 and lugs 4 at one end against which t 1e edges of the paper may be seated. Between the lugs i is an opening 5 with a lug 6 projecting therein. 7 is the jaw of an ordinary paper clip having a finger grip 8 at one end and an opening 9 which may be utilized for hanging the device on the wall. A spring 10, substantially cylindrical in form, has an opening 11 to receive the lug 6 inserted therein when one end of the spring is thrust through the opening 5. The spring also has an opening 11 to receive the shank of the jaw 7, the adjacent end of the spring bearing on a rib 12 that is formed in sald A similar rib 13 is formed on the back side H. Homes of the plate 2 for engagement v jacent end of the spring to, hold it from slipping on {the plate and when, the spring and jaw are in position, they will appear as shown in Fig. ..3.o ;Pressure-on. the end of the'jaw will'put thelspring under tension the plate to allow papers to be inserted thereunder and when the jaw is released, these papers will be firmly gripped and can not be removed without damage to them until the spring clip is opened. j
It will be noted in this construction that only one jaw of the clip is used. The article is purchased in knock-down form and when assembled, one jaw and the spring are all that is necessary to mount on the plate for gripping the papers and holding them securely. Theother jaw, which forms a part of my application, above referred to, is unnecessary and merely adds to the expense ofparts. lVith this device there is only one I and raise the jaw away from the surface of jaw to be used, thereby reducing the first cost, and when the device is opened for the insertion of the'papers, there'is no danger of their being gripped between the memorandum plate and the normally stationary aw. 1
I claim as my invention:
1. A memorandum file comprising a plate having an opening therein to receive one'end of thespring of a memorandum clipto bear on the rear side of the plate, and a jaw having an end to enter an opening in the other end of the spring and be held by the tension thereof against the front of the plate.
2. A memorandum file comprising a plate having an opening therein and a lug proj ecting into said opening, a spring cylindrical substantially in form having an orifice to receive said lug, one end of said spring bearing on the rear face of said plate, a jaw having a finger grip to enter an opening in the other end of said spring and beheld thereby with a yielding pressure against the front of said plate, said jaw being adapted to move outwardly fromsaid'plate I f in its rear face near said orifice, of a spring having one end inserted through said orifice front of said plate" and'having an end to enter an opening in the other end of said spring and be held thereby against said plate with a yielding pressure.
. 4. A memorandum file comprising a plate having an openlng therein to rece ve oneend of the substantially cylindrical spring'of a memorandum clip to bear on the rear side of the plate, and a single jaw mounted to interlock with the other end ofsaid spring forwardly and downwardly curved on the front side of said plate and be held by the tension of said spring against the face of said plate between which and said jaw the papers are inserted;
5. A memorandum file comprising'a plate, a clip comprising a spring mounted to interlock intermediate its ends with said plate,
with one end of said spring bearing on the back of said plate, the other end of said spring being forwardly and downwardly curved and a jaw interlocking with saidnforwardly and downwardly curved end and bearing on the front of said plate.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 9 day of February, 1921.
GEORGE H. HOHN SBEEN.
