Description
W. N. .`WILLSN. Driv-ing-Reil'n Supports and Protectdbs.` "N0. 139,842. PatentedJuneUlO. 1873@ UNITED STATES PATENT i OFFICE. N N
WILLIAM N. C. WILLSON', OF SUMMIT POINT, WEST VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRIVING-NEIN SUPPORTS AND PROTECTORS..
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,842, dated J une 10, 1873; application led May 19, 1873.
scription of the same, reference being had to the `accompanying drawing. forming part of this specification.
The invention relates to means for preventing the usually annoying practice which belongs to all draft quadrupeds of switching the reins out of their proper position and clamping them under their caudal extremities. The invention will irst be fully described in connection with all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 3, a vertical section of socket-piece; and Fig. 2, a side elevation of a modification.
In the drawing, A .represents a socketed stand having the set-screw a., and the perforated foot or feet a', by which it may be fastened to the upper part of the shaft or pole C.
One is placed upon each shaft, and in their sockets are' secured the ends of the bent rod or rein-protector B, which is provided with a loop or rein-holder, b. The ends of the rod B, for some distance up, may be notched at intervals, b1, to receive the pointof screw, and the rod may also have a brace or braces, b2. By this construction, the rein-holder and protector B may be adjusted to correspond to the height of the draft-animal employed, so that the reins will be held at suitable elevation, and so that the tail will be prevented from interfering withit, but yet not unnecessarily cramped or confined in its movements.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and -desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
lA drivin g-rein support, consisting of the bent rod B b, socket-stand A a', and clamp or set-screw a, all combined and applied to the l pole or shafts, as set forth.
