To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDY KULIKOFF, a citizen of Russia, residing at North Side Pittsburgh, county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Padlocks, of which the following is a specifications.

This invention relates to improvements in padlocks and particularly to padlocks adapted to be operated without the use ofa key.

It is the principal object of the invention to provide a padlock of this type which can be opened and closed through the operation of two movable buttons by a person knowing the secret.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a padlock of this character which is closed automatically.

These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts here inafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a front view of the padlock constructed according to my invention.

Fig. 2 is an inner rear view thereof after the removal of the cover seen in the direction of line 22, Fig. 3.

Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the lock on line 33 of Fig. 1.

The padlock comprises a casinglO, having front and rear plates 11 and 12 respectively and a shackle 13.

The front plate 11 shows the customary key hole 141 and four buttons 15, 16, 17 and 18 respectively. The button 15 is movable and can be moved vertically in the direction of the lower end of the lock casing 10, while the buttons 16 and 18 are stationary. The button 17 is also movable horizontally toward the outer left hand side edge of the casing 10.

The rear wall 12 of the casing is provided with an inner depression 19, in which are slidably arranged, as shown in Fig. 2, the vertical latch 20 on one side of the casing, and the horizontal latch 21 near the upper edge thereof.

The pin 22 of the knob or button 15 slides within a vertical recess 23 in the front wall of the casing of a size equal to the size of the radius of the underside of button 15. This pin is secured with its inner end to the latch 20, and a spring 2 1 is vertically disposed in the depression 19 abutting with one end against the lower edge of said depression and with the other against a shoulder 25 of the latch 20, and on its upper edge the latch 20 has a finger or projection 26 engaging in a suitable recess of the latch 21. The horizontal latch 21 has a latch projection 27 .on one of its ends adapted to engage in the projected position of the latch 21 the keeper opening of the shackle 13 as indicated in i Fig. 2. At its opposite end the latch 21. is provided with a shoulder 28 against which abuts one end of a horizontal spring 29, the otherend of which rests against the side edge of the depression 19. The button 17 has a pin 30 secured with its inner end to the latch 21 and adapted to be laterally displaced in a slot 31 of the front wall 11 of casing 10, said slot being of a size equal to the length of the radius of the underside of button 17. i

The rear wall 12 of the casing shows also four buttons, two of which, 15 and 18, are

shown in Fig. 3, which however are decoy buttons only.

The lock operates as follows- Assuming the lock is looked, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and it is desired to open the same, then the person knowing thesecret moves the knob 15 toward the lower edge of the casing and this will also move the latch 20 downward against the action of spring 2 1, while the finger or projection 26 at the opposite end of the latch will be disengaged from the recess in latch 21.

lVhen now the operator moves knob or button 17 toward the left the latch 21 will be moved against the action of spring 29 and its projection 27 will be disengaged from the keeper opening of the shackle 13, which can now be swung around its pivot 32 and the lock will be open. The operation of closing the lock will be clear from the above descrip tion without further explanation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. A padlock of the class described comprising a casing and a shackle, two sliding latches in said casing, a means for normally holding one of said latches in locking engagelnent with the other latch. a means for normally holding one of said latches in engagement with the shackle of said lock, and means for successively disengaging one of said latches from the other, and the other latch from the shackle.

2. A padlock of the class described comprising a casing having adepression in its inner rear wall, and a shackle, a vertical and a horizontal latch sliding in the depression of said casing, a spring for normally pressing said horizontal latch into engagement with said shackle, a spring for nor mally holding said vertical latch in engagement with said horizontal latch, and-means for successively interrupting the engagement between both latches and between one of said latches with the shackle.
