Description
A. HQFLECK.
BOBBIN HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED DECJT, I920.
Patented Nov. 22, 1921;
UNITED STATES ALBERT HENRY FLECK, OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO.
BOBBIN-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 22,1921.
Application filed December 17, 1920. Serial No. 431,457.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT HENRY FLnon, a citizen of the United States. residing at Lakewood, in the county of Cuyahot'a and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bobbin-Holders, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to improvements in bobbin holders or supports, the present embodimentof the invention being particularly designed and adapted for use in receiving and supporting. the conical shaped tubes or shells commonly known as cop-tubes carrying the cops of thread or yarn used in connection with various forms and types of knitting, sewing and looping machines.
The primary object of the invention to provide a generally improved holder or support of this class, which will be exceedingly simple in construction. cheap of manufacture and etiicient in use.
A further and very important object is the provision of an improved support adapt-- ed to be readily attached to or detached from the ordinary base plate and spindle used in connection with knitting machines. and when so mounted and attached adapted to receive the parts and interlock with the base portion of the coptube whereby the latter will be securely supported and retained as the thread or yarn is taken from the top of the cop and cop-tube.
lVith the above mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts. hereinafter described, illustrated in one of its embodiments in the accoinpan v ing drawings. and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification. Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section of a holder or support applied to an ordinary cop-tube and to t 1e conventional form of cop-tube support or base plate and spindle.
Fig. 2, a cross sectional view of the same taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, a perspective view of the improved spindle receiving and clamping screw for attaching the support to the ordinary cop-tube receiving spindle.
Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.
The improved holder or support is adapted to be used in connection with any suitable and convenient bobbin or tube spindle 1]., and supporting base 2, and arm or supporting rod 3. 1n the present instance, the cop-tube receiving spindle l. and supporting base 2, and arm 3, are of the conventional form frequently used in connection with knitting machines.
In adapting the device for use in connection with the conventional forms or devices above referred to, and particularly in con nection with the conventional form of coptube l-. usually made of compressed paper or suitable composition, the support 5, is preferably of truncated cone shape spun up from suitable metal forming the inclined side walls and terminating at its top in a supporting head 5, the latter being provided with a central opening formed by struck out portions providing an annular flange 5 The opening formed by the struck out flange 5", is adapted to receive the top portion of the spindle l, and as a means of securely fastening the support 5.upon the spindlc'l, the interior portion of the opening or flange 5 is provided with threads adapted to receive a spindle receiving and clamping device consisting, in the present instance, of a sleeve screw 6, embodying the angular shaped head and provided with exteriorly threaded tongues 6 the latter being preferably tapered on their outer sides, as shown most clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings, whereby upon drawing the same downwardly or from left to right in the threaded opening and about the spindle 1., the latter will become lirmly clamped to securely support the coptube holder 5, upon the spindle 1.
As a convenient means of removably attaching the cop-tube 4;, upon or detaching the same from the inverted cup shaped support when the latter is attached to the spindle 1, as above referred to, the inclined sides of the support 5, are preferably provided with corrugations 5. arranged in spiral or thread form, said corrugations being preferably formed out of the side walls of the support. as shown. whereby to securely receive. and interlock of the base portion of the cop-tube. as shown most clearly in Fig. l of the drawings.
By virtue of the construction of the holder or support 5. as above described, it will be obvious that the surfaces of irregularly made cones or cop-tubes l, will. assume a perfectly with the inner surfaces conical shape when threaded or seated upon the support through the medium of the corrugated threads 5.
Having thus described one of the embodiments of my invention, without having attempted to set forth all the forms in which it may be made, or all the modes of its use, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. In a cop-tube support, a conical-shaped cop-tube support shaped to receive and engage within the base portion or the cop-tube and provided with threaded cop-tube engaging corrugations and terminating at 1ts top in a tapered threaded opening provided with a tapered clamping screw to receive and clamp the cop-tube spindle.
2. In a cop-tube support, a truncated coneshaped cop-tube support to receive the base portion of a cop-tube and provided with threaded corrugations, said support terminating at its top in an attaching head having a threaded opening, and a split cla1np ing screw in said threaded opening to receive and clamp a cop-tube spindle.
3. In a cop-tube support, a supporting ar1n,a supporting base thereon, a spindle on said base, a threaded cone-shaped support provided with a supporting head having a threaded opening surrounding said spindle, and a sleeve clamping screw surrounding said spindle in said threaded opening in cooperative relation to said threaded coptube support.
4. In a cop-tube support, a main supporting arm terminating in a supporting dish, a central spindle on the latter extending upwardly therefrom, a threaded tubular support provided at its top with a supporting head having a central threaded opening, and a sleeve clamping screw receiving said central spindle and provided with threaded clamping tongues arranged in said threaded opening of said supporting head and surrounding and clamping said spindle in cooperative relation to said threaded cop-tube support. r
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
ALBERT HENRY FLECK.
