Be it known that I, Bonner ALEXANDER BACHII. r, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in do hereby declare the followingto be full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to more and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to letters 1 figures of reterence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to spruyers, more especially used for 'aying insecticides, and the object or the intention is to make a self contained pump and r serroir of sheet metal that can be made at small cost, is easily packed for shipping, whose parts projecting om the r. are protected by marginal insoles and which can be used in either a horizontal or vertical position. The reservoir can have any cross ional shape, such as squa but I prefer a 1 r- Ede circular, triangular cross section as then no attached lees or brackets will be necessary when layinig; the s3 'ayer d wn to maintain the liquid pi, cs u right; at least one angle, the top uncle can be on ved to conform to the curvatul e of the pump barrel.
In order to allow the sprayer to be used in both horizontal and vertical positions I employ a. plurality of suction tubes at least two, terminating adjacent the a r discharge orifice of the pump one of which extends to near the bottom at one end and the other of which extenus to near the bottom at the other end oi 'the reservoir. The plurality of suction tubes are simultaneously actec upon by the air jet and one at least will promptly respond to the action oi the et as this tube is independent or" any other and dips into the liquid.

In these drawings the reservoir 1 has secure; to it triangular ends and 3 by forming the joint in any well known manner as by lapping and bending and thus produces marginal flanges a. The flanges are wide enough to protect the pump handle filler opening and spray pipes, when the sprayer is set on end.
At least the upper corner of the reservoir is rounded to conform to the cylindrical pumpbarrel 5 that is soldered at its ends to the two heads 2 and 3 of the can.
The can head 2 has a single perforation or air jet hole 6 and ti e head 3 has a hole 7 for the rod 8 of the pump plunger.
This plunger may be constructed in any manner desired and is here shown as a leather oisk 9 held between two plates 10 and 11 through which the end of rod 8 passes and is swaged to hold the parts in position.
A handle 12 is secured end of rod 8.
Adjacent the hole 6 are two liquid sup ply or spray pipes 13 and 14, both having short portions outside the can head 2 at the hole (5 and in spraying position. The pipe 13 extends downward to near the bottom of the can adjacent the can head 2 and the pipe 1d extends through the can to near the bottom adjacent the can head 3.
Any suitable screw topped filling opening may be provided in any convenient position. Such a screw top opening 15 is shown in the reservoir head 3.
By positioning the ends of a plurality of separate liquid supply pipes as 13 and 14 with their discharge ends in spraying position with relation to the air jet hole 6, I always have one pipe capable of supply ing liquid. There are no movable joints or valves and one pipe is not dependent upon the other for its operation, nor does one pipe tend to decrease the flow within the ther pipe as would be the case it the pipes communicated with one another, and especially if such connection were within the can.
The base of the triangular sprayer body forms a stable seat. The flanges 4 protect the ends of pipes 13 and it that extend out of the reservoir, the screw top and pump handle, so that the sprayer may he stood on either end in shipping without injury to these parts. The triangular shape facilitates packin One of the problems to be overcome in the type of sprayer in which the pump is inside of the reservoir is to prevent dripping from on the opposite l l l the capillary tubes when the reservoir is full. This I do by placing the pump at the top of the reservoir, the object being to get the upper ends of the tubes 13 and 14- above the level of the liquid.
Thisis more easily attained with the tri-- angularly shaped reservoir than with other shapes, as the walls of the reservoir fit around the pump barrel to a greater extent, so that there will be less liquid at a level above the ends of the tubes when the reservoir is full.
r I claim:
1. A sheet metal sprayer comprising a triangular reservoir an air pump whose ends are formed by the ends of the reservoir and a liquid supply pipe in spraying relation to said pump.
2. A triangular sheet metal sprayer body having an air pump inclosed within said body at the apex.
3. A sheet metal sprayer body having end flanges, an air pump within said body, a liquid supply pipe having one end thereof outside one of the can heads in spraying relation to said pump, a can filling closure and a pump handle, said pipe end, closure and handle lying within and protected by said flanges.
4. In a sprayer, an air pump having a single air jet discharge hole and a plurality of valveless liquid supply pipes of diflerent lengths terminating in spraying relation to said hole.
5. A sprayer having a triangular reservolr, an air pump having a single air jet discharge hole near an apex of the reservoir, and two valveless liquid supply pipes terminating in spraying relation to said hole, one of said pipes extending within said reservoir at one end of the reservoir and the other pipe extending within said reservoir to its opposite end.
6. In a sprayer, a triangular sheet metal reservoir, a cylindrical sheet metal pump barrel within said reservoir, at its apex, said reservoir having its walls curved to conform to the curvature of the pump barrel.
7. A sprayer comprising a sheet metal, triangular reservoir, a cylindrical sheet metal air pump barrel within and at the apex of said reservoir, which conforms to the shape or. said barrel, a single discharge hole for said pump, a plurality of liquid supply pipes having their one ends in spraying relation to said hole and their opposite ends extending to opposite ends of said reservoir, a reservoir closure, and a pump handle, said reservoir having end flanges of sufiicient depth to protect said pipe ends, closure and handle.
