PATENT OFFICE.
ALICE K. BOTT, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
CORSET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 22, 1921.
Application filed February 16, 1921. Serial No. 445,444.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Anion K. Born a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and! useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in corsets whereby a money pocket may be provided for these articles of wearing apparel.
The provision of secret pockets for jewelry and valuables which are convenient and not apparent to the observer is a great necessity for women, especially when traveling, and according to my invention I mount the pocket for valuables, money and the like, on the corset in such a position as to be entirely unobservable through the outer clothing.
I have found that even with tight skirts, it is necessary for womens garments to be fairly loose at the front, just below the abdomen, so as to permlt of the wearer stitting down. I Thus although the skirt or other garment may be very tight around the hips, if at the front it is so tight as to press against the body of the wearer, any skirt will entirely confine the possible position of the wearer to standing erect or lying down.
I have noted, in View of the above, that there is a space left in all womens apparel between the corset and the outer skirts and underskirts, which will permit of the insertion of a pocket without the contents of the pocket forming a protuberance in the dress of the wearer.
Accordingly, it is the object of my invention to mount a pocket on corsets, in such a position as to be free of observation when any type of outer dress is used, and this I accomplish by that certain construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the drawing,
Figure l is a perspective view showing the pocket device mounted on a corset in use.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the same device.
Fig.5 is a simple form of pocket as used in my invention.
It will be noted that the corset 1 is shown as mounted on a wearer, with the waist line for a skirt 2, indicated at 3, although this is more or less arbitrary, following the particular stye of outer dress adopted. The cor set lies close to the body at the front as at 4, which is customary in corsets, since the usual corset and those applicable to my invention are formed inwardly at this point to confine and provide a lifting support to the abdomen. i
' It is particularly to be noted that. a space 5 is left between the front portion or portions 4 of the corset and the skirt 2, which space is always large enough in any type of wearer, and with an type of corset, as dlstinguished from a lirassiere or mere girdle, to permit of the mounting of a pocket or ockets.
s shown I have mounted a pocket 6, at each of the depending formeddn lobes of the corset at the points 4, said pockets being preferably two pieces of cloth stitched together and to the corset. A snap fastener 7 may be used to keep the pockets closed, if desired.
When filled with money and valuables, the pocket forms no inconvenience to the wearer, as it is supported against a stiff portion of the clothing, and it is in no way apparent through the outer clothing because of the space left between: said. clothing and the formed-in lobes of the corset.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V In combination witha corset having a formed-in portion following the line of the abdomen below the waist, a pocket mounted against the face of said formed-in portion, whereby valuables may be inserted in said pocket without discomfort to the wearer, and the normally free space between said portion of the corset and the outer apparel prevents observation of the pocket and relieves the wearer from pressure against the articles in the pocket.
