To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEANORE E. ALLEIGH. a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention. such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved dress and one object of the invention is to provide a dress which is adjustable in size to permit of it being used by persons of varying sizes.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this dress that the separable side portions of the body or waist portion of the dress may be concealed behind a bib or front piece which extends upwardly from the skirt portion of the dress.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this dress that the bib may serve not only as means to conceal the overlapped and connected side portions of the waist, but may also serve as means for reinforcing and strengthening the waist portion and insuring proper connection between the separable side portions thereof.

Another object of the invention is to provide a dress of the character described so constructed that it will be simple in construction and easy to put in place and adjust.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

This dress is provided with a skirt 1 and waist 2, the skirt being formed in front and rear sections sewed together as shown at 3. The waist is also provided with forward and rear sections sewed together at the sides as shown at 4, and the rear sections of the waist and skirt are sewed as shown at 5. It will therefore be seen that the rear portion of the waist will be secured to the skirt Specification of Letters Patent.

whereas the forward sections of waist will be separate from the skirt. In order to releasably and adjustably connect the side portions (3 of the waist, these side portions having been provided with panels 7 and 8 which are secured to the side portions of the waist and extend in overlapping relation as shown in Fig. 2 when the panels are releasably connected and in the operative position. The panel Z carries a strip 9 and the panel 8 carries strips 10 and 11, these strips 10 and 11 being provided with sockets 12 and the str p 9 being provided with studs 13 for fitting into the sockets 12, buttons and button holes or hooks and eyes being substituted if desired. A belt 14 is provided for fitting about the waist and this belt has its overlaplng end portions provided with a plurality of fasteners 15 similar to the studs and sockets 12 and 13, so that the length of the belt when fastened may be varied. The flap or apron 16 is provided with buttonholes 17 and the side portions of the waist carry buttons 18 so that the flap or apron may be releasably held in the raised position shown in Fig. 3.

When this dress is in use, it is put on in the usual manner' and the flap 7 will be brought across the flap 8 and the studs 13 inserted in the sockets 12 carried by the strip 11. The belt will then be passed about the waist as shown in Fi 2 and as soon as the belt has been fastenec l, the apron or flap 16 will be drawn upwardly and the buttons 18 passed through the button-holes 17 to retain the apron in the raised position. The dress will then have the general appearance shown in Figs. 3 and 4 as viewed from the front and rear. If it is found that the dress fits too tightly, the apron 16 can be released and permitted to drop to the position shown in F 1g. 2 and the studs 13 released from the sockets 12 of the strip 11 and connected with the sockets of the strip 10. This will increase the size of the waist portion of the dress and permit of a better-fit. The belt can then be again fastened about the waist and the apron drawn upwardly and fastened by the buttons. It will thus be seen that there has been provided a dress which will be adjusted according to the size of the wearer. It will be further noted that the dress is very simple in its construction and can be easily made and further may be easily and quickly put in place and fastened.

I claim: 7

1. A dress comprising a skirt and waist, the waist having unconnected front side sections provided with flap extensions for extending in overlapped relation, means for releasably holdin the flap extensions in adjusted overlappe relation, the skirt having extension extending upwardly an forming a concealing flap for the flaps of the 'walst, and means for releasabl holding the concealing flap in a raised an operative position.

2. A dress comprising a skirt and waist, the waist having, unconnected front side sections terminating in spaced relation, closure flaps carried by the front side sections and extending in overlapping relation, means for releasably holding the closure flaps in an adjusted overlapped relation, and the skirt having an upper flap extension releasably connected with the front side portions of the waist to conceal the overlapped flaps of the waist.

A dress comprising a skirt and waist, the waist having unconnected forward side sections,.fiaps carried by the forward side sections for extending in overlapping relation, fastener elements carried by one flap in vertically dis osed substantially parallel rows, fastener e ements carried by the see- 0nd flap for engaging the fastener elements in a selected row upon the first flap and releasably holding the flaps in an adjusted and closed position, a concealing flap carried by said skirt for extending over and concealing the flaps of said waist, and means for releasably holding the flap of the skirt in a raised and operative position.

4. A dress comprising askirt and waist, the waist having a rear section and unconnected forward side sections terminating in spaced relation, flaps carried by the forward side sections and extending in overlapping relation, vertically disposed strips carried by one flap and carrying fastener receiving sockets and .a strip carried by the second flap and carrying fasteners for engaging the sockets of a selected strip of the first flap, and the skirt having a rear section connected with the rear section of the waist and a forward section having an upwardly extending flap extension for covering the overlapping flaps of said waist, and means for releasably connecting the flap extension with the forward side portions of the waist to hold the flap extension in a raised position.
