Description

S. DOREY.
SHAVING CUP.
APPLICATION FILED IAR. 2]. i921.
PATENT OFFICE.
SYLVESTER DOREY, OF GLOVERSVILLE, NEW YORK.
SHAVINGr-CUP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1921.
Application filed Iarch21, 1921. Serial No. 454,055.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SYiivns'rER DOREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloversville, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a. Shaving Cup, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to shaving cups and more particularly to cups of this char- -acter for use in barber shops.
The object of the invention is to provide a cup of this character which while thoroughly sanitary is simple and easily cleansed, and may be readily connected up with a water supply pipe and with a. discharge pipe.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 represents a central vertical section of a cup constructed in accordance with this invention with the discharge valve in closed position,
Fig. 2 is a horizontal Section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l, and,
Fig. 8 is a detail vertical section showing the bottom or discharge valve in open position.
In the embodiment illustrated the cup constituting this invention comprises a bowl shaped member 1, having a tubular rim 2 detachably mounted on its upper end and provided adjacent the inner walls or sides of the cup with downwardly opening aper tures or perforations 3, any desired number of which may be employed which extend entirely around the inner face of the perimeter of said member 2. This member 2 has a radially extending coupling member et opening through one side wall thereof and de signed to be connected with a water supply pipe P which may connect with the hot or cold water system and which is equipped with a valve 5 controlled by a spring pressed push button 6 for controlling the supply of water to the cup.
This cup is provided with a hollow flared base 7 connected by a hollow neck 8 with the bowl, said neck having a depending threaded extension 9 for connection with a discharge pipe not shown.
This hollow neck 8 communicates with the interior of the bowl of the cup, and is equipped with a vertically opening valve 10 having a shank 12 depending therefrom into the neck and extension 9 and equipped with a transversely arranged slot 13 through which extends a pin l5 eccentrically mounted on o ne end of a circular or cylindrical head 16 carried by a stem or shank 17 which is mounted 1n one side wall of the neck 8 by means of a bushing 18 detachably connected therewith. This stem 17 is equipped at its outer end with a handle 19 for rotating the stem 17 and head 16 to open or close the valve 10.
The shank 12 of the valve is mounted in suitable guides 14 carried by the walls of the neck 8 and the extension 9 and is shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2, to insure the proper seating of the valve 10.
In the use of this cup, when connected up as shown in Fig. 1, and the valve 10 in closed position water is admitted to the bowl of the cup by depressing the button 6, the water flows into the tubular member 2 and passes out through the perforations 3 therein in a whirling motion into the bowl of the cup. After the cup has been used once, the valve 10 is opened to discharge the water therein through the pipe 9 into a Suitable receptacle or into a discharge or sewer pipe if it is so connected, and after the used water has been discharged, the valve 5 is opened to admit water through the apertures 3 for cleaning and if necessary sterilizing the cup, it being obvious that the water entering the cup in a whirling manner through these apertures 3 will thoroughly and effectively cleanse it.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that any modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
I claim:
1. In a shaving cup of the class described, the combination of a bowl having a dis charge opening in the bottom thereof, a vertically movable valve for closing said opening, said valve having a shank depending from the bottom thereof, a rotary head mounted in a plane at right angles to said shank and equipped with an eccentrically mounted pin engaging said shank, and means for rotating said head to raise and lower said valve.
2. In a shaving cup the combination of a bowl having a hollow neck leading from the bottom thereof and provided with a threaded extension, a base supporting said bowl connected with Said neck,. a valve mounted to control the inner end of said neck to close communication between it and the bowl, guides carried by said neck for said valve, a rotary head mounted in said neck and having 'a stem extending transversely therethrough at its outer end and a pin on its inner end eccentrically mounted thereon, said valve having a depending shank vwith a transversely extending slot to receive said pin whereby the turning of said head will operate to open and close the valve.
In testimony whereof I aiiX my signature hereto.
SYLVESTER DOREY.
