WENDELL STRASSER, OF TAYLORSVILLE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND SAMUEL S. BAUGHMAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN SKATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,628, dated June 3, 1873; application filed October 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WENDELL STRASSER, of Taylorsville, in the county of Muskingum, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Skate; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the san e, reference being had to the accompanying cra .ving forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of my improved skate, with ashoe attached. Figs. 2 and 3 are, respectively, top and bottom views of the skate. Fig. 4 is a side view.
The invention relates to an improved means of connecting skates to boots or shoes having a wooden sole, or to the boots or shoes ordinarily worn, as hereinafter described.
To this end 1 construct the skates as follows: A wooden sole, B, is secured to the leather uppers A of a shoe, by means ot' nail and staples L M, (Fig. 3,) and the sole is detach ably connected to the skate by a lug, G, and screw F, which engage, as shown in Fig. 1. rJhe lug is formed in one piece with the bar E, or attached to it in `any suitable manner as preferred. The heel-cap O lian ged, crosspiece D, and b ar E, are preferably formed in one piece of metal, (brass.) Said bar is grooved in its under side to receive the runner H, and the two are secured together by a hook, J, and a screw, I, passing through the heel of the runner. Thus constructed, the shoe A B may be readily' detached from the skate by turning the screw F, and the runner Witnesses WILLIAM M. GONNELL, SAM. S. BAUGHMAN.
