V UNITED 'STATES.
JENS S. HOLM, OF CEDAR FALLS, IOWA.
ADJUSTABLE TABULAR DEVICE.
Application filed May 2, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JENs S. HoLM, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cedar Falls, Black Hawk county, Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Tabular Devices, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to improvements in adjustable tabular devices, and the object of my improvements is to provide an adjustable device whose relatively movable parts have concentric annularly arranged tables of difierent sequential designations and numerals which may be adjustably placed in desired relations to each other by the relative moving or" one of the parts of the device.
This object I have accomplished by the means which are hereinafter described and claimed, and which is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which is a plan view of the device.
My improved device is particularly appropriate for use in the insuring of hogs or other live stock, but it may be arranged and used for other and different purposes as may be possible or desired.
The device consists of a circular sheet of paper or cardboard 2 positioned upon a larger surface or sheet 1 for relative rotation thereupon either disconnectedly or upon an axial fastener 3.
The circular sheet 2 is provided with an annular marginal row of sequential numerals 8 which may be separated by means of short radially directed lines 9 to permit of their more ready visual distinction. These numerals 8 may sequentially differ from each other serially by any desired pluralities of digits.
Arranged concentrically around the sheet 2 upon the sheet 1 is an outer annular row of the sequentially arranged months of the year, as shown at 4. The designations of the months are within like circumferentially arranged spaces separated by double radially directed lines 5. These spaces, between the designations of the months and the circumferential edge of the sheet 2, are 00- cupied by a concentric annular row of spaced numerals, the numerals being arranged in pairs as shown at 6, there being three pairs of numerals allotted to each month, with the respective pairs of numerals separated in each space by short radially Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented N 0v. 8, 1921.
Serial No. 466,292.
directed lines 7. It will be seen that the radial lines 9 are equally numbered to both sets of lines 5 and 7 whereby any one of said pairs of numerals 6 may be placed in uxtaposition to any desired marginal number 8 on the disk 2 when the latter is appropriately rotated.
7 en, for instance, this device is employed on a policy of live stock insurance, the sheet 1 may represent a portion of the policy on which the disk 2 is positioned r0- tatably on an axis 3 or disconnectedly as desired. For example, within the space designated January are positioned the three pairs of numerals 6 shown, marked l-10 ll-20 and in succession, indicating the division of the month as evenly as may be into three parts. Each of the months spaces is similarly divided. It will also be observed that the annular marginal row of numerals marked 8 on the disk 2 consists of separated digital designations, serially arranged, such as 40 45 50 or others in increasing series of any desired arrangement of digital separations. These numerals represent predetermined weights in pounds of the animal insured at different stages of its growth. In insuring an animal, for instance, on the eleventh day of anuary, in case its weight on that day is 32 pounds, the disk 2 is rotated to bring the numeral 33 thereon opposite the proper date, that of January 11th. The back of the disk 2 is then permanently affixed in this relative location on the sheet 1 by pasting or otherwise permanently securing it thereon. In the event of the animals loss at some future date within the year, it is settled for by weight according to the numeral designating its weight on the disk 2 opposite the date of a day included in one of the pairs of numerals 6 on the sheet 1 in the space under the proper month designation. For instance if the loss occurred May 15th, it will be seen that settlement is made on the basis as predetermined of 110 pounds.
This device permits of a very close approximation as based upon experience.
aving described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A weight determining device of the character described, comprising a disk having a plurality of marginal radial lines providmg marginal spaces containing numerals in an increasing series to denote difierent interval spaces are appropriated in regular weights, and a sheet on which said disk 1s sequence of months around the disk, wherepositioned, said sheet having lines extendby the disk may be movably located on the ing radially toward the edge of said disk sheet and then permanently non-movably' to be arranged in line with the said radial mounted thereon to show a determination of lines on the disk providing spaces containweights on the disk relative to the day ining pairs of numerals denoting certain day terval spaces in juxtaposition thereto. intervals in a month, said sheet having Signed at Waterloo, Iowa, this 2d day of thereon in juxtaposition to certain plurali- April, 1921.
ties of said day interval spaces the name of the respective month for which said day JENS S. HOLM.
