HIBHEEHIBEB-I lRuun-E EIBHEI FIGURE 1 FlGURE 2 INVENTORS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. DAVIS AND HOMER L. WOLFE, (3F SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
SHOE-FITTING STOGL.
Application filed February 1, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES A. DAVIS and HOMER L. W'oLrE, citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Fitting tools, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to that type of stools which are used to render the process of fitting shoes more convenient to the fitter and the person fitted.
It is the object of our invention to provide a stool of the character indicated in which an adjustable foot support is provided whereby the foot to be fitted can be arranged at an angle convenient to the fitter or at which the shoe top may be drawn the most smoothly around the ankle of the person fitted, or both.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of our improved stool, part being broken away.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, part broken away.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, we show at 1 a seat portion supported by a frame work 2 on legs 8. The front portion of the framework is somewhat narrower and lower than the seat portion and angularly arranged with relation thereto, the side members 4 of said front portion passing upwardly under the front portion of the seat and attached to its under side as shown. The legs 3 are three in number, two
I supporting the rear portion'of the device and one supporting the front end under that portion sustaining the heel of the person being fitted.
On the lower portion of the frame between members 4 is arranged a foot piece 5 hinged to the said lower portion at one end as shown at 6 and having a heel rest positioned transversely thereon as at 7 To the under side of the forward end of foot piece 5 and depending therefrom is secured a v Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1921.
Serial No. 441,584.
On a transversely positioned bar 9 mounted on side members 4, is pivotally mounted at 10 a latch 11 having its forward edge normally held in engagement with the toothed bar 8 by a spring 12 mounted at the back thereoi as at 13. This latch 11 is provided with a thumb piece 14 extending beyond one side of one member 4.
It is clear from the foregoing description that when the latch 11 is operated rearwardly through the medium of thumb piece 14 it is disengaged from the toothed bar 8 and the foot piece 5 may be raised or lowered as desired, whereupon the thumb piece 14 is released thereby permitting the spring 12 to force the latch 11 back into engagement with the adjacent tooth on the bar 8.
By simply adjusting the foot piece 5 as described, a foot thereon may be quickly placed at such an angle that the shoe top can be drawn smoothly about the ankle, and the task of the fitter rendered less onerous.
It is to be understood of course, that while we have shown and described one particular embodiment of our invention we do not wish to confine ourselves to that particular form, but to include all changes in construction that may be included within the scope of the appended claim.
We claim:
A shoe fitting stool comprising a supporting frame, a seat portion arranged there on, a foot rest pivotally mounted on the forward portion of said frame and extending toward said seat portion, a toothed element depending from the lower surface of the free end of said foot rest and formed on an arc of which said pivotal mounting is the center, and a latch mounted to normally engage said toothed element but disengageable therefrom.
