IMPROVEMENT IN KETTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,502, dated June 3, 1873; application filed April 4, 1:573.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM J oHN EVANS and WILLIAM PERRY, both of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Rims for Kettles, of which the following is a specification:
The object of our invention is to provide for a stronger and simpler rim for kettles than It consists in riveting to, soldering, or otherwise making steamtight a separate cast or pressed metallic ring to the rim of the kettle or to the place of the kettle on which the cover rests. At present the rim iseither driven up or overlapped by a separate piece of metal to strengthen the same.
In the manufacturing of kettles saving of metal is a great desideratum. The piece cut out for the cover-hole is too small for the cover. By our invention this is obviated, as the pieces so cutout can be used forcovers. Again, at present separate ears are used, riveted or soldered on to hold the handle, which is also obviated by our invention, as we cast or press the ring and the ears together.
In order to more fully describe our invention we refer to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.

A represents the top of the kettle. B is the metallic ring riveted to A at a a. U G are the ears for holding the handle of the kettle, which is riveted to the top of the ears at c c.
Having thus described our invention, we desire to claim-- The metallic ring B with ears G G, in cornbination with the top A, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
