To all Iw from t may concern Be it known that I, FRANK OLKowsKi, a citizen of Poland, residing at Three Lakes, in the county of Oneida and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in mechanical toys and has particular reference to a toy of the figure type wherein a plurality of shiftable toy figures are adapted to be moved by a spring motor mechanism that is manually controlled.
The invention has particular reference to a toy embodying a casing with mechanism 1within the casing for supporting and moving a plurality of toy figures, preferably of the design of chickens over the upper surface of the casing to cause the figures to be moved toward and away from a. feeding receptacle supported on the casing.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings and in which' like reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, there is illustrated a niechanical toy embodying a casing containing spring motor mechanism and cooperating slides with toy figures carried by the slides and extending above the casing, the figures Specification of Letters Patent.

being caused to move in a swinging path from the opposite sides of the casing to the center thereof. The figures are constructed in simulation of chickens and a feed receptacle or pan is disposed centrally of thecasing cover with the Chickens moving toward and away from the feed pan. The casing embodies a bottom wall 1, end walls 2 and side walls 3 while a cover f1 is suitably secured to the upper edges of the side and end walls and is provided with longitudinal slotted openings 5 and transverse slotted openings 6 through which the supporting members for the toy figures extend.
Crossed supporting bars 7 and 8 are secured at their opposite ends to the side and end walls of the casing Vas shown in Figs.- 1 to 3 and are spaced from the cover wall 4.-.
The shifting mechanism for supporting the toy iigures embodies a shiftable bar 9 slidaloly mounted on the supporting bar l8 with a block enlargement 10 at each end thereof provided with a transverse vopening 11 into which inwardly directed lugs 12 of'a wire frame 13 are pivotally received, the lower ends of the wire frame 13 having inwardly directed fingers 14 pivotally received in the opening 15 in the supporting bar 8 as clearly shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 6. A slide plate 16 is positioned above the sliding bar 9 and is movable in a direction at right angles to the sliding movement of the bar 9, the plate 16 carrying end extensions 17 having transverse openings 18 in the ends thereof.V A wire frame 13 has the lugs 17 pivotally received in the end openings 18 and the lower end fingers pivotally received in openings 19 in the supporting bar 7 as shown in Fig. 2. The connection between the slide bar 9 and slide plate 16 includes a pin 20 eX- tending perpendicularly from the center of the slide bar 9 and projecting into the diagonal slot 21 in the slide plate 16.
The mechanism for shifting the slide plate embodies a spring motor casing 22 secured to one side wall 3 of the casing and containing a spring motor placed under tension by the key 23 with the power shaft 24 projecting from the casing 2 and carrying a disk 25 upon the inner end thereof with an eccentric pin 26 connected by a pitman 27 to one side of the slide 16, as at 28. The spring motor mechanism includes a toothed wheel 29 with which a finger 30 of a stop lever 3l is adapted to engage for arresting movement of the spring motor.
To place the spring motor under tension, the finger 30 ot' the stop lever is disengaged from the wheel 29 and the key 23 rotated in the desired direction. The rotation of the shaft 24: will communicate reciprocatory sliding` movements to the sliding, plate 16 by the pitman connection 27 between the plate and the shaft. rihelslide 16 extending at right anglesto the slide bar 9 will communicate a siiding movement to the bar 9 by the diagonal slot 21 in the plate 1G receiving` 'the pin of the slide bar as will be obvious. The upperends of the wire trames 1S have secured thereto toy ig'ures in the form 0i chickens indicated by the reference numeral 32 while ay :feed pan 33 is positioned on the casin` cover d, to cause the iigure toys 32 to move .in directions toward and away trom the feed pan. The operation of the devicev is under the control oil the stop lever 31 and at will, the iigure otl the stop lever is moved into engagement with the wheel 29 of the springmotor to arrest movement thereot. The slide plate 16 and slide bar 9 are maintained in their correct positions by the Wire tra-mes 13 pivoted to the Supporting bars 7 and 8 and inclosing the sliding niem c bers, thus causing the toy iigures to ascribe a direct line ot travel in moving toward and away j from the feed pan 33; Considerable amusement may be obtained from the operation of thisdevice and the speed of travel f ot' the figure toys may be readily controlled by` the winding oit the spring motor mecha-- nism while the operation ot the device is controlled by the stop lever 31.

1. A. mechanical toy comp ising a casing, lined supports within the casing, a pair ot crossed sliding members within the casing moving in directions at right angles to each other, figure toys including supporting trames pivoted to the fixed supports and the sliding members, springs,` motor mechanism,
a pitman connection between the motor s mechanism and one of said slides and a pin and slot connection between the slides.
2. A mechanical toy comprising e casing, fixed supports within the casing, a pair of crossed sliding` members within the casing` moving in directions at right angles to euch other, iigure toys including` supporting trames pivoted to the fixed supports and the sliding` members, a spring,` motor mechanism,
