IMPROVEMENT IN BOOK-RESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139, 341, dated May 27, 1873; application filed May 19, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LIDA TARRING, of the city of Washington, District of Columbia,
have invented certain Improvements in Book- Rests, of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Object of the Invention.
Description of Drawings. Figure 1 is a side elevation of a desk with the iblding-rest attached. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a desk,` showing a modification of the device as applied to a desk for two persons. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a desk, showing one desk with hinges and one Without.
General Description. Similar reference-letters denote similar A is the desk, to the sides of which are attached, with suitable thumb-screws b, arms a. These arms may be curved orstraight, and, if necessary, provided with a `middle hinge to facilitate folding. They have also slots through which pass thumb-screws c, which are intended to clamp and hold at any desired angle the rest B. The third point of support for the rest is found on the top of the desk. When heavy weights are to be supported on the rest it may be found necessary to fasten the rest and slotted Yarm together by a hook or rod, which may be countersunk in the Wood of the rest and hinged to the same.
