To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. TANK- ING, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in' Supports, of wh ch the following is a descrlptlon, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.

The present invention relatesto certain new and useful improvements in supports, and has for one of Its: ob ects toprovlde a support adapted for use in connection with tables, stands, Christmas trees or the like which will be capableof readyattachment or detachment.

Another object of this invention is to pro- I vide a support for the purposes stated which will be capable of being folded when not in use to occupy a small amount of space.

' A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the class described in which the supporting legs have means moved to impinge against the member being supported by the weight of said memher, andin which the supporting platform is formed from a single sheet of material so constructed as to readily support a weight placed thereon.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.

In the accompanying drawing, I have illustrated one complete example of the herein disclosed invention constructed according to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principlesthereof, and in which:

Referring now. more particularly to th accompanying drawing, 6 designates afsupporting base or platform which is of substantially triangular shape having each corner thereof-squared as at .7 and. provided with a, central aperture 8 formed by striking the opposed pairof spacedears 9 from theplatform as best shown in Fig. 3..

.The member to be supported designated as at 10 has secured to its lower end a stud member 11 which has its outer portion provided with a head 12 and a flared shank or intermediate portion 13, the head 12 being engaged through .a central aperture 14:

formed in the platform 6 as best shown'in Fig. 4. The head 12 is of a size as to just permit the passage through the aperture 14 and has its lower end slightly rounded as at 12' for convenience in guiding the same through said aperture.

Pivotally secured in each recess 8 by means of a bolt 15 is a supporting leg 16 having its upper end disposed above the platform 6 and provided with teeth 17. As best shown in Fig. 3, the supporting legs 16-are formed of channeled materialrand the oolt 16 passes centrally through the adjacent pair of ears 9 and the side walls of the adjacent supporting leg. To secure the pole, or other member to be supported, upon the platform 6, the stud 11 is first driven in the lower end thereof and then the same is positioned on the platform with the stud passing through the central aperture 1 1 as best shown in Figs. 2 and 4-, when the supporting legs 16 are moved on their pivots to bring their upper ends, carrying the teeth 17 into engagement with the pole 10, the weight of which will cause the teeth 17 to bite into the'pole as will be readily apparent from Fig. 2.

In the modified form of platform 6 tie picted in Fig. 5, the side edges thereof are laterally flanged as at 6 to give added strength to the same as will be at once apparent.

While I have illustrated my invention as being adapted for use in connection with pole or tree members 10, it would be at once same may be used to support abroken table leg, and in fact, for any other purpose.

What I claim as my inventlon is:
