One of the objects of `he present invention is the provision of means for quickly and securely holding the skate in position, the

Another object is the provision of means for quickly and securely adjusting the skate to tit the shoe, the said means permitting of the removal and attachment oi the skate without disturbing the adjustment.

nAnother object is the provision of a roller skate in which a cushioning or. shock absorbing4 means is interposedbetween the rollers or roller and the body yof the skate.

Other objects and Yadvantages of the invention will appear'y las the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.

Referring to thedrawings in detail, whereinl like characters of .reference denote corresponding'parts, the skate to which the improvements are applied comprises a heel plate 10 and a toe plate 11 these plates being engaged with one another in the usual manner, in that they are each Jformed with longitudinally slotted extremities, the slotted extremity of the heel plate passing through a i transverse slot in the toe plate to provide for adjust-ing the length ottheskate to fit shoes ot different sizes.

For the purpose of holding the heel plate 10 and toe plate 11 in proper adjusted position, there is provided a rod 12 whose inner end is secured to an enlarged head 13 of a threaded ,stud 14, the said stud passing through the slot ot the toe plate and through an opening provided in the heel plate, being secured in position by a nut 14. This not only serves to secure the end of the rod 12 in position but serves to connect the plates 10 and 11 in a manner to permit of' relative sliding movement. The outer end of the rod k12 is threadedas indicated at 15 and this threaded end passes through an opening provided in a lug 16 which is secured to the bottom of the toe plate 11, the size ot the opening in the lug 16 being such as to permit of free sliding movement of the rod 1.2 in theV longitudinal adjustment of the skate. Mounted upon. the threaded end of the rod 12 is an adjustable stop which is shown in thev form oit a nut 17, so that after the skate f has been adjusted tothe shoe the end may be positioned against the lug 16 to preventy outward movement. Another novel feature o the invention resides in the provision ofcushioning means interposed between therrollers and body portion of the skate. rlfhe skate sho-wn is of the type in which a single. roller is employed at the toe and a single roller at the heel, although a. pair oli' rollers may be subshown comprise a hub` portion 29 through which extends an axle 30. `The hub portion 29 is surrounded by a rim in which is secured a rubber tire 31, this being one of the vmany forms of rollers or wheels which may Abe used in connection with the skate.

vHaving described the invention what is claimed is l.'Ihe combination' with a skate, of a toe stirrup carried thereby, said stirrup comprising a plate positioned transversely of the skate, aA flexible member connecting the ends of theplate to provide a toe receiving loop, headed studs carried by the skate for vdetachable engagement with key hole slots formed in the plate of the stirrup to detachably connect the same with the skate.` y

The combination with a roller skate, of means for slidingly mounting the rollers in a manner to permit of vertical movement of the skate relatively to the rollers, said means comprising a U` shaped roller carrying frame, a guide secured tothe skate to slidinglyreupon the skate, said means comprising a U shaped'roller carrying frame, a guide securedimto the skate to slidingly receive the iroller and a springY having one end secured to the skate and the opposite end secured to the U` shaped Jframe to yieldingly hold the latter against sliding movement.
