Application led December 27, 1918. Serial No. 268,445.
i boards, the primary object of the invention is to provide a board structure including a table top having a recess formed therein, and a hinged cover for said recess, which cover is provided with a plurality of openings for receiving pegs of different colors, by means of which pegs and openings, children may Jform various articles, such as the letters of the alphabet, repre-senta tions of various common articles, pictures or the like, and further to provide drawers which extend slidably into the ends of the table top for receiving the pegs when not in use.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for supporting the table top or board structure which consists of a plurality of supporting legs having reduced upper ends, which seat in sockets in the corners of the table top or board.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the ac companying drawing, and claimed.
ln describing the invention in detail, reierence will be had .to the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, andin which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the iinproved educational board, showing the same supported by legs in a horizontal position,
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. l, Y
Fig. 3 is a cross section through the center of the board, showing the cover or case positioned on the same,
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the copy'supporting bracket, showing the same positioned on the table, and
Fig. 5 1s a side elevation of one of thepins or pegs used in connection with theboard.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, l designates the table top or educational board Vas an entirety, which is constructed of any suitable material and is provided with a relatively large recess 2 formed therein intermediate of its ends. The recess 2 is normally closed by a hinged cover or plate 3,' which is hingedly connected at 4L to a hinge strap or structure 5, 'carried by the sides or ends 6 'ef the board structure. The
hinged cover 3 has a clasp or latch''` carplurality of openings 10, extending therethrough which may be arranged in any desired manner, and these openings are provided for receiving pegs 11, as indicated in Fig. 5 Qt' the drawing, to form representations of various articles or the letters of an alphabet, so that by placing the pegs in various openings in the cover 5, a child may become accustomed to the various articles and thus its education will be greatly advanced. The pegs 11 may be of various colors, so as to add to the attractiveness or appearance of the representation of the article Jformed on the board, and it is desired to furnish a book with the game board which will have various illustrations therein, which the child may copy on the board by the use of the pegs 11.
The ends 12 of the board 1 are provided wit-li recesses 14, which extend inwardly from the outer edges, and receive drawers 15, which are adapted to retain the pegs 11 when the pegs are not in use.
The corners of the board are provided with recesses 16, which extend upwardly from the bottom thereof and received the reduced upper ends 17 of legs 18 which support the board 1 in a horizont-al position, .as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. Suitable plates 19 are positioned at the lower ends of the legs 18, and they are provided with recesses 2O for receiving the lower ends ot' the legs to hold the legs firmly in place.
The book or other'work to -be copied 1s supported by an easel 2l, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing. The easel comprises a U- Shaped frame having a pair of legs 22, bight portion 24 and a. central brace 23. The brace 23 is connected to the bight portion and extends downwardly and rearwardly therefrom and then bent angularly thereto to rovide a horizontal portion 25, which is ent inwardly and arranged to engage the rear edge ot' the table. The table is provided with a plurality of spaced sockets 26, which are secured by any suitable inca-ns to theboard, and these sockets are arranged to lreceive terminals of the legs 22 and brace 25 to hold the easel in position. An angular bracket 27 is secured to the legs 22 and positioned near .the bottom thereof and forms means for support-ing the bookV or the copy work to be copied.
A handle 30 is attached to one edge of the board l for use in carrying the boaid from one place to another, and when it is desired to either store the educational board structure, or carry it, the lees 18, plates 19 and easel structure 2l are p ac-ed within the recess 22 and :the pegs l1 are placedwithin the drawers l5, thereby providing a compact ,article which can be. conveniently transported. y y
A canvas cover or other fabric receptacle 3l, can be provided for completely incasing the board, when the same is in its flat form, so that the same can be readily transported and the cover can be provided with a suitable handle 32 so that the board can be readily transported.
y In reducin the invention to practice, certain minor eatures of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may cover perforated throughout a major portion of its area with Vrelatively small juxtaposed holes, pegs adapted to i'itf the holes whereby charac-ters may be formed upon the table top by inserting the pegs in the perforations. f Y
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of'a witness.
