Description

J. STOCH.
FASTENER roa ADJUSTABLE wmoows.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 15, 1921.
1,392,606, v Patented Oct; 4, 1921.
PATENT OFFICE.
. \TAN STOCK, F UNIONTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
FASTENER FOR ADJUSTABLE WINDOWS.
I To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JAN STOCH, a citizen of Poland, residing at Uniontown, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for Adjustable Windows, of which the following is a specification. v
The main object of this invention is the provision of an adjustable window which ma be accurately regulated'to allow any deslred degree of opening.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which like-named characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawings.
Referring briefly to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device. I
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view, partly in section, of one of my adjustable supports.
Fig. 3 is :another enlarged view of the same, partly in section, showing the interior construction.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents a window sash hav ing a window frame 2 horizontally hinged to the up er portion thereof, and a pair of window rames 3 vertically hinged to the lower portion thereof. I provide latches.4 of common construction for the latter. Eyelets 6 are secured to the upper frame 2, and hook-like members 5 are pivotally secured in said eyelets, and are adapted to engage eyelets 7 on the sash 1.
A sleeve 6 surrounds, and is rigidly secured to, the member 5, and is provided on the interior with a plurality of spaced apart notches 7. A second member 8 is-slidably mounted; within said sleeve, and is provided at its extremity with an extension 9 which engages the eyelet 7. A channel extends through the member 8, and therein is slidably mounted a rod 10 having an upwardly extending lip 11 by means of which the rod may be moved in its channel. A recess 14 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 4, 1921.
Application filed January 15, 1921. Serial No. 437,376.
is provided in the member 8 near the forward end, and a mouth 12 is provided about the channel where the latter enters said recess. Within this month, rigid with the rod 10, lies a flange 13. A lug 15 is vertically slidably mounted within the recess 14, and is provided with a horizontally extended nose 16 having its upper surface curved after the fashion of a cam. A band spring 17 is secured within said recess and the free end thereof engages a shoulder in the 111 15 and urges the latter upward into a notch 7*. It is apparent that, upon. forcing of the rod 10 forward (to the left in Fig. 3), the
end of said rod, by engagement with the nose 16, will draw the lug 15 from the notch 7" and thereby allow the member 8 to slide in the sleeve 6. Said member 8 is thus 'moved into the desired position, and the rod 10 is withdrawn, again allowin the lug 15 to enter another notch and retaining the member 8 securely in its new position relative to the sleeve 6. Thus the effective length of the member 5 may be varied at will, and the degree of openin of the window 2 may be nicely regulate I claim:
A device of the class described comprisin in combination with a window plvotal y attached to a sash, means for varying the degree of opening of said window comprising a member pivotally attached to said window, a sleeve rigid with said member, said sleeve having its interior surface notched, a second member slidable within said first-member, a channel in said second member having a rod slidable therein, a recess near the end of said second member, a lug slidably mounted in said recess and having a nose extending therefrom, means for urging said lug against said sleeve, said rod being adapted to move said lug against the force of said means when said rod is moved inward in said channel.
In'witness whereof I afiix my signature.
